I honestly didn't know where to post this, so I'm just creating a new discussion topic.

THis is an incredible story and path. Rick will be one of the starting pitchers in the Ivy championship today or tomorrow hosted @ Cornell. His path to get there is the path least taken.

Danno,

I don't know specifics. But, if I was to hazard a guess it looks like Rick graduated from high school and then did a post-graduate (PG Year) high school year at prestigous Deerfield Academy. Folks do this to better prepare themselves for college academics or athletics or both. He probably did very well at Deerfield to boost his grades and resume. After Deerfield, he enrolled in a nearby JUCO (in NY) to get college credits (and play baseball) that would later transfer into college. Cornell has both a public and private charter with the state of NY. So I think the PG year may have had more to do with his admissions into Cornell than the JUCO.

He then tried out as a walk-on, and made the team. The year that he would have tried out Cornell had a pretty good team as they lost in the Ivy championship to Dartmouth.

Again, this is all conjecture on my part. But his journey and dream got realized and he got a very good education along the way. He will be playing in an NCAA D1 regional in a few weeks as Cornell won their conference. He found a path to accomplish his goals is the bottom line.
