I have been reading a lot of posts about the new bats and just want to clear a few things up. We got our bats in a little over a week ago and have been using them every day. We are a Louisville Slugger school, and thats all we use, so I can't speak for other bats, or other bat companies. I only speak about the Louisville Sluggers!

The new bats are NOT that much different than the bats that were used last year. If you square a ball up on the sweet spot, it will go just as far as it would in the past. The difference is that the sweet spot is a little smaller. No more balls jammed off the handle will be leaving the yard this year.

It frustrates me when I hear people say that they're "worse than wood bats". This is just ridiculous...I don't know how else to put it.

Our guys that have always hit homeruns in bp are still hitting homeruns in bp. Guys who never hit for power still aren't hitting for power!

We are lucky enough that we get to test the prototype bats and I will say that the new bats that will be used this season are much better than the prototypes that we tested last year.

The biggest difference is the sound. They definitely do not ping like they used to. It doesn't "sound" like the ball is hit like it used to.

Are the new bats different? Yes. Will it completely revolutionize the game? No. I think the biggest difference will show up at the lower levels of baseball where more players are less likely to consistently hit the ball on the "sweet spot". I'm sure the power numbers will be down some this year, but it isn't impossible to hit a ball out of the yard with the new bats. It just takes bat speed and squaring the ball up!

Just wanted to say again that I don't have any experience with any other bat companies.

These are just the things that I've noticed. I hope some of you find this useful and don't stress out from now until the season starts because you think the bats are going to be "worse than wood."

LS does have a BBCOR Omaha. But you probably won't find many sellers discounting BBCOR bats right now because they just came out. Usually the best bargains can be found on previous year models when the new models come out. But since this is the first year for BBCOR, there are no year-old bats taking up space that need to be cleared out.
Coach, thanks for the review of the new Louisville bat. Our family has been swinging the Omaha for years, and feels very comfotable with it. A great product. My eldest son's team (JUCO) should be getting their first BBCOR Omaha any day now, and he is very excited to swing it. Good luck with your season.

Keep swinging it...
My Son's D1 school, only got 2 BBCORs and used the same 2 bats for most of the Fall.

Total of 4 HR's hit(4 different players) in the first 12 5-inning scrimmage games.

They got 2 more brand-new LS bats and then hit 3 HR's in next 2 games and several shots off the wall or caught at warning track. Interestingly enough, the 7 HR's were hit by 6 different players.

Was it the newness of the bat,or just the hitters getting used to them?
Do these new bats get 'worn-out'?

Also, does anyone know how temperature affects these bats?
The last 3 HR's were hit on days when the air temp never reached 50.
It does appear that there is a difference between the 3 companies most often referenced here. Everyone likes the Louisville Slugger, Nike is okay and Demarini lags the pack.

I would be interested to see if there is any analysis by a group comparing each of the new bats against each other. Different bats always had different "pop" under the old regime. Apparently that has not changed under the new.

Two bat companies thickened the bat walls and two more added large O rings to make them BBCOR complient. I never thought the Nike or rawlings BESR bats were very good before anyways, so by the looks of it with the BBCOR rating they will all be pretty even for now. I've heard good things about the Easton Surge, Easton Rival and the Omaha.
