They are having a rough year in their conference, young team, they lost a lot of players through the draft.

My son was recruited to LSU, it was not a good fit for him. There were some other SEC programs as well gthat recruited him, but again, he didn't find them to be where he wanted to go to school for 3-4 years. Things are a bit different in the deep south than in the north. JMO. Smile

My advice to anyone (as discussed) is to make sure that the baseball program is not the 100% reason to attend a particular program.
The LSU program is hit or miss for all of the players. Some players earn a starting spot early in their career and never look back, catapulting themselves into pro baseball. Other players get stuck behind more talented players and never sniff the field their entire career. Coach Maineri is not afraid to bench you early in the year and not play you the rest of the season.

If you go to LSU you will play in the best conference in the nation, arguably the nicest stadium in the nation, and there will be 10,000 people at every game. If you are successful, you will be treated like a god by the many tiger fans and you will have a chance to have a good pro career.

That being said, I would rather go to another school and play than go to LSU and ride the pine, so make sure you will get playing time if you go there.

Good advice. I'd go a bit further opining that things are a bit different in south Louisiana than really anywhere else. It is a unique environment. Not bad, just different. Some may not understand the drive-thru daiquiri stands, for example. However, the best food in the country is served there, imo.

The ballpark is an absolute palace. The fans are fanatical with passion that runs to the extremes in each direction. 50+ page game threads are the norm on Tiger Droppings.com. Players are under a microscope 24 hours a day. If a player screws up, he'll be ripped mercilessly. It's a good spot for a top 50-100 type player to develop, imo.

It's true. If you do well, you're a god in town. If not, you're likely looking for a new school. Turnover is significant. Manieri (and others) hate "dead money". They will need to replace RF Mikey Mahtook (think Jeff Francouer), a probable high 1st rounder.

Terry Rooney was the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator there, at Notre Dame with Manieri before that and Stetson U. before that. He left to take the head coaching job at UCF after the 2008 season. Rooney is generally regarded as one of the better recruiters. LSU has not been the same since he left, while UCF has turned the corner this year.

LSU brought in a couple of former ND coaches after Rooney left, none experienced running a pitching staff. They signed a No. 1 class in 2009-2010 and lost almost all to the draft. Its easy for LSU to recruit the best players in the country, but pointless if they don't show up. They won the 2009 CWS with Rooney's recruits...all in my opinion.

Very interesting. I heard that ucf over recruits. whatever that means. Alot of information on this board

I don't know if they do or not. Rooney cut a bunch of horrible stiffs the former UCF coach recruited. That transition is common. Plenty of schools over-recruit. It has been cut back some with the reduction in roster size to 35. Kids get cut in the fall. Coaches handle it in different ways. Some basically tell the kid so long, while others work to place the kid in a juco or DII program or promise a roster spot next year.

Good luck going forward.
