Lynnhaven Palomino completed their season last night with probably one of the wildest games you can ever be a part of.........but we will start with our first game against Tawain.

Game 1 - Lynnhaven loses a heartbreaker 2-1 in eight innings to Tawain.....Karter Rivera pitched another outstanding game for us, but the defense let him down giving up two unearned runs.....1 in the sixth inning and 1 in the eight. Karter should have won this game 1-0. Additionally, we lost our starting shortstop in this game, Paul Jaglowski to a broken hand.....a big blow to our middle infield. Paul was the leader of this team and did not let them quit. Most people at the game said this was probably the best game they had seen in 4 or 5 years.....but wait until game three comes around.

Game 2 - Lynnhaven takes game two from the Host Team, San Jose Blaze 7-1 behind the pitching of Eddie Butler and offense of Mike McCutcheon and Kyle Newcomb. Mike hit a homerun that was probably 450 feet.

Game 3 - Lynnhaven survives a 13 inning, 4 and half hour game...which we never led until the last at-bat. Final score was 14-13. Opponent was East Lansing, MI. East Lansing jumped on us early in the first inning and didn't let up on our pitching staff, aided by numerous errors. In the bottom of the seventh inning, East Lansing was winning 11-8, two outs....James Taylor singles, followed by a single by Cameron Butler.....Trevor Hinson hits a 3 run homer to tied the game. But East Lansing strikes right back with 2 in the top of the eighth....but again, our team was not going to quit......with one out...Blake Boyce walks and Kyle Newcomb smacks a two run homer to tie the game at 13-13......finally both teams had chances in the next 4 innings but could not plate a run...but in the bottom of the 13th Cameron Butler hits a walkoff homer to end the game. Lynnhaven hit 7 homeruns in this game and Mike McCutcheon hit another monster shot...this time, probably 475 - you would have had to seen it to believe it.

So after playing 49 games this summer, we end of 3rd in the World in Palomino Baseball.....not to bad, not to bad.

Congrats guys and thanks for all the hardwork and dedication.......Lynnhaven will depart San Jose California in the morning for our journey back to Virginia Beach!

PONY World Series format is Pool Play competition, with only one team coming out of each of the two pools. While Lynnhaven won two of three, every team in their pool had the same record. The tie breaker for getting out of your pool is runs scored against. With that last game (13 against) they had no chance against Taiwan who only gave up two runs over their three games.
Let me just add a quick footnote, because I cannot let Billy Phillips go unnoticed here. Billy has taken a Palomino program that was virtually non-existent a few ago and produced two world series teams.

Some will say that it is easy to do this when you recruit the best talent in the area (Duh). Opinions of that sort are short-sided as far as I'm concerned. In order to compete on a national level in this age group, there is no other choice. Billy competes year in and year out with organizations that pull talent from entire geograhpic regions. Not to mention the fact that he does all of this on a shoe string, rec ball budget while the "upper echelon" teams are coporately sponsored, not just by local businesses, but national corporations.

The success of this program is a reflection not only of Billy and Jerry's committment, but again to the talent that the Tidewater region continues to produce. Congratulations fellows, you sure as hell earned it.

South Richmond and Lynnhaven tried early on in the season to play but could not get a date worked out that would fit both schedules because of the travel...but we will try again next year for sure. You only get better playing the best.
Lynn,

There is still room.

It will be on Monday, 12 October with a 1:30pm shotgun start at Honey Bee Golf Course in Virginia Beach.

Cost is $100 per player with includes a sit down Steak Dinner and numerous other prizes.

Chris Egan is running the tournament at (757) 286-4339....or you can always talk to Sam.

Hope to see you there.

Billy

PS....think you can get me a couple games on ODU's Field next year if I get a good team to come in and play us....HA!

I can't speak for Coach Myers, I bet he would welcome you with open arms. Maybe Norbie's team can come up and play you, I understand they played over at CNU this past weekend.
Did you put in for the Assistant Coaching position at ODU? I'm sure your recruiting experience would really help!

1943, leave my boy alone. He only recruits for us.
