Living in LA I can tell you there is one newspaper columnist who tried his hardest to drum up some opposition, resentment, even a boo against Manny. No takers and eventually people were going after the columnist to shut up.

I don't know if it is LA where fans pretty much treat a game as if they are going to the movies or that fans in general just don't care about the cheating and lies any longer.

I think mostly it is that Bonds for instance is/was so disliked to begin with, whereas regardless of what idiocy he engages in the response with Ramirez is just "it's Manny being Manny".

Ultimately I think the quote from Pete Rose many years ago has finally taken hold...."If you ain't cheatin' you ain't trying".

Personally I think Manny is a bum and has disgraced the game but, at least in LA I'm in the minority. They love him here and no one really seems to care. Pretty sad.

Remember that Bonds was generally adored in SF no matter what charges were brought against him or "sorry" behavior he exhibited. So, I'm not surprised Manny gets the same treatment in LA.

I do think Manny does get off a bit easier because of the "Manny being Manny" bit.
Manny demonstrated absolutely zero graciousness, appreciation, or class on his way back up to the Dodgers. I understand it's customary for high profile guys down for rehab assignments to spring for a decent clubhouse meal. While here in ABQ, he didn't so much as treat his temporary teammates to a box of CrackerJacks.
Plashke was right to speak out on Manny. As much as I love the man I'd probably give him a pass if he didn't do it, but Vin Scully should voice his sentiments just as succinctly as he did on Bonds. Vin might be the only guy that could wake Dodger fans from their collective Mannywood stupor.

How's this? Bill Plaschke was accused of being a racist for his anti-Manny stance both in the LA Times and on Around The Horn! Because of the apparent overwhelming support of Manny in LA, and his draw on the road, many eligible HOF voters will be swayed to "look at his overall body of work" when his name is on the HOF ballot. This boy's getting in, IMO.
Let's see, LA is in California, a/k/a "La-La Land"...

Southern view of California: "There are two views on California; one is it is enlightened, cultured, sophisticated, and perhaps slightly ahead of the rest of the country. The prevailing view however is that somebody tipped the country and all the nuts rolled west."

To the California folks that will nail me on this, I plead guilty but would argue that the rest of the country has already punished us here in Virginia by the close proximity of Washington, D.C. which attracts politicians from all over the country, kind of like bugs to a light. Those guys and gals are currently busy straightening out college football. God save college football...
