Not quite sure what that means. But apparently he can't keep his mind, body, and focus on the one thing that should mean the most to him right now - Baseball. IMO, he has let his fans down and the game of baseball, and doesn't deserve any fanfare or acccolades from anyone going out this way.

MLB Press Release:

"Major League Baseball recently notified Manny Ramirez of an issue under Major League Baseball's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. Rather than continue with the process under the Program, Ramirez has informed MLB that he is retiring as an active player. If Ramirez seeks reinstatement in the future, the process under the Drug Program will be completed. MLB will not have any further comment on this matter."

Manny has nothing left to prove.....he's already got Hall of Fame statistics and his entire career has been an ESPN top 10 highlight reel.

The Hall of Fame pretends to be the "Ministry of Truth" which turns out has nothing to do with the truth. It was alright to be a member of the Ku Klux Klan, alright to murder someone, take the mound while drunk (when it was illegal to do so), chomp on amphetamines like they were jelly beans, rub elbows with organized crime, apply greasy substances to the ball and drink any combination of testosterone laced concoctions but don't get caught with a steroid unless you happened to be the great Mickey Mantle.

I know, I know...Manny was the great Latino Idiota. At least he entertained us. Some of these players act like they are showing up for the midnight shift at the local mill.
Oh well. At 38 he didn't have much left in him anyway.

PA Dino, you are right, there are many HOF members that have less than stellar character references.

But just because someone was allowed into the HOF back then doesn't mean that someone should get a pass now. I personally think that Mark McGuire should be in the HOF. Barry Bonds? Maybe. Both of those players were obviously juicing but when they were at their juiciest the substances were nod and wink approved by the MLB. Because of that they should be judged by the standards of the day, not now.

Manny is a different case. A-Rod will have the same issues if it is found that he was taking illegal substances after they were banned. Ramirez KNEW that these substances were not approved and continued to use them. Just like Pete Rose knew that gambling on baseball was a bannable offense and would eliminate him from HOF contention Manny Ramirez knew that taking banned substances would result in getting another suspension and would probably taint his whole career. He knew it and continued to take it.

You are right, many people in the Hall of Fame have checkered pasts. It is also true that many, like Ty Cobb, would never be contenders for the Hall of Fame. Personally, I doubt that he would have gotten past AA ball with that attitude. He never would have seen a major league team. He made John Rocker look like St. Francis.

I do have a suggestion for that.....every year the baseball writers get together to vote, they should vote (one) previously enshrined HOF'r out! You pick the reason. There are plenty that are undeserving and some that don't even have the statistics IN their era. i.e. Bill Mazeroski. But for one timely home run and a humble attitude, The Maz would be outside looking in. Sounds ridiculous yes. Especially when you know how much he treasures the HOF. But no more ridiculous than keeping out uniquely talented baseball players just because their robe is not white enough. Baseball is a childs game made into an enormous economic monopoly for a few owners who by the way, sanctioned by their turned heads the entire steroid era for the laudable purpose of making millions.
There is a school of thought among some of the voting sportswriters that the very best players of each era should be admitted to HOF, regardless of possible cheating "issues". The possible problem therein is that possibly "clean" guys would get left out, which I can deal with because after all, life is not fair.
Just like ESPN's Tim Kurkjian said yesterday. Mark McGwire didn't even TEST positive and only received less than 25% in each of his 4 years on the HOF ballot. Manny doesn't stand a snowball's chance in 4ell of getting in now. Deservedly so.

I'm glad to see him leave with this cloud of disgrace over his head. Wearing hair like a woman out there. Flopping around in the outfield ridicuously when he was wanting to get out of Boston. He was a mockery to the game.

Good riddance.

Now another young player looking for his opportunity will get his chance.

I think iyt's a great idea. Weed out the undeserving and make the hall of fame just that: a hall of fame for the rare few. Not a club that somebody has to get voted in every year just because.

Mazeroski and PeeWee Reese would be the first to go.

Those two in the hof is a huge joke.
Manny being Manny is what got Manny in trouble. The circumstances leave one to wonder, but seems to me that he may have refused a test, under the drug program he has to be available for testing when asked.

If he was using something I highly doubt he is the only one, he just may not be able to figure out how to not get caught.

I usually don't feel badly for these guys, but I feel bad for Manny. He should have been given better advice a while ago to leave the game, a players agent and the players advisors know when it's time. Just quitting was wrong. I am not sure Manny is the type to figure these things out on his own but I am sure there have been plenty of people who made some big bucks off of Manny.

I personally don't think he cares about the money or being in the HOF. Baseball was his life, most likely had no clue how to go about it without baseball.

What are 204,807,769?

Reasons in dollars why Manny could care less what anybody thinks of him. His career salary according to baseball-reference.com. Only A-Rod and Jeter are higher. Now if they can pay an idiot that kind of money imagine what the owners are making...........Do you think it was just a random test that knocked Manny out of the game? He had no more worth to the owners and all of them despised him for making a mockery of the game. Manny was used like the cheap ***** that he was. This is all about keeping Congress off their back. The last thing the owners need is a bunch of greedy politicians sticking their noses into the monopoly demanding kickbacks and a bunch of palm greasing.

Did I say that? I know you were thinking it.
Just cuz he's got a lot doesn't mean he can't use more.

Ramirez enclosed the following message with his ad:

"Hi, I'm Manny Ramirez. I bought this AMAZING grill for about $4,000 and I used it once. ... but I never have the time to use it because I am always on the road. I would love to sell it and you will get an autographed ball signed by me. Enjoy it, Manny Ramirez."
