I have been reading posts on this site for quite a while. This, however is my first post. My son (09) is very interested in Marietta. We have visited, he stayed with players and is certain it has an amzing baseball program. There are practically no kids there from our neck of the woods. Most people in our area (including our school's college counselor) don't know anything about the school. I would love to talk to someone who either has a child there or knows more about the school.

bballmom09 - welcome to the hsbbweb Smile

My son had an ex-teammate star for them a few years back and led them to a national championship in 2006. I know what you are asking - what type of school is it. From what I know, it is a small liberal arts school with a tradition for a good education.

The reason most baseball players go there is they have one of the greatest traditions for baseball in the country. They have produced several big leaguers and the 2006 team produced an 8th round draft choice. It is a premier baseball opportunity and they have the very highest goals for themselves.

Some have accused them of over-recruiting but I am not aware of any college program that does not make kids battle it out in the fall for playing time in the spring. I suggest using the find tab at the top of the forums and search on Marietta as this topic comes up quite often on the hsbbweb. Good luck.

ClevelandDad---Thank you for your insight. I have read all there is to read about Marietta on this web site!! I was able to get a little bit of a feel for the school during a session they had for parents during a scholarship competition.
Everyone we have come in contact with at the college has been wonderful. The coaches were also very personable and the level of baseball was intense which is exactly what my son is looking for. He is still considering some other choices -

So I ALMOST went to Marietta. Picked a school closer to NYC and home instead. Now this was a while ago, but I really liked the atmosphere, and thought that it was a beautiful school. Nice little town, and I just really liked the feeling on the campus. I know that this doesnt help much, but I just had a good feeling about the place.
