If I remember correctly Newbury Park from the Marmonte League won the Bishop Gorman tournament one year (07-08) when they were not a particularly strong team in the Marmonte League (7th place in league). Bishop Gorman was one of the top ranked teams in the country that year. Moorpark who finished just ahead of Newbury Park in the standings that season won the Righetti tournament. Interestingly, Simi who won the league and the CIF SS did not do well in their Easter tournament that season. Just to give some perspective on that season Royal had 5 pitchers who were eventually drafted including two 2nd round picks and ended up third in the league.

I'm not sure how last place Moorpark is noted as one of the better teams in the league at this point. At this point in the season they can't be considered one of the League's better teams, although they do have the pitching depth to turn it around. They certainly weren't ranked in any of the local polls I've seen while Newbury Park, Agoura and Simi have been. The most likely case is that Moorpark is in the middle of the pack of the bottom 5 teams and will have to do well to make the playoffs. JMO, they'll come in 4th or 5th and will make the play in games at least.

Perhaps this will get their bats going as they do have a very solid pitching staff that has gotten very little support against SoCal pitching.

5/10/12 It looks like they came in 4th. They probably have a shot at doing well in the playoffs as they've got good pitching depth. There's always a lot of luck involved in the playoffs as a team can run into a team with one strong pitcher but a so-so overall record and happen to face or not face that pitcher.
