When you think basketball in Montgomery County, you might think coach Harwood and Magruder. Think top quality amateur play; again Magruder; its drama department one of the best in the state. But put baseball and Magruder in the same breath and you get a laugh.

Not anymore.

First year Magruder manager Bob Maxey, who is currently a teacher at BCC High School, and whose son is the starting catcher at University of Maryland, took over a program that wasn't.

Maxey, who has an impressive baseball resume, has proved the point that good managing and mentoring can indeed make a difference.

The difference has been impressive victories over ranked Damascus and Sherwood, thus clinching their division's title for the first time in twenty plus years.

If you wonder why you haven't heard about the major upsets in the local papers, Maxie could care less about the accolades. Instead, he cares about building a program and taking the Magruder Colonels to the next level.

Included in the rebuilding program is Magruder's JV team. Made up of all freshmen, with the exception of one player, the JV Colonels are also racking up the victories behind first year skipper Brian Yerger. His intense practices and fundamental approach are helping contribute to Maxie's rebuilding effort.

My personal belief, Bear you have overstepped your bounds again, and in two instances providing the infamous "flame bait."

Using the "overachievers" to identify the Magruder players is unfair. Secondly, I do not see what your second comment has to do with Magruder High School Baseball.

I do not know Coach Maxey personnally, but he should be commended for taking a team that has been in the cellar for years and winning their division.
1. In 2003, Magruder Baseball finished a game out of winning the 4A/3A East Division title, (and is thus a far cry from the cellar)

2. The status of Magruder players achievements originated from Coach Maxey himself.

Just got a call from several HS coaches, wanted to know if residence for legal guardian is in Davidsonville or Crofton this week?

Bottom Line: GFU

McCormick, you simply have no fricking clue
of the use of the term 'overachiever'.

From Websters: to perform better or achieve more than expected, esp. by others

The use of the term 'underachiever' typical implies a person that performs below expectations.

Tom,
I do not know what to say. Bear, you are bringing up a discussion from May 2004?

Again, the point was not the definition of overachievers, it was your implication when you used it in the same post where you referenced a 17-0 loss to Sherwood.

I am truly sorry this 2004 thread has stayed with you, but if there is something more and you want to talk, you can call me any time.
