DD, I saw the SLC/Keller game today and SLC left no doubt who the better team was in third and final game. Good job by all! It will be sad to break up the party next year! With the LISD schools moving into 8-5A it just won't be the same! 8-5A might be just as tough next year, but I have really enjoyed the competition between SLC, Coppell, FMHS & Marcus in 6-5A the past two years! Best of luck and continued success to all 6-5A teams in the playoffs!

Anyone have an opinion on why the heck MHS can't win a playoff series with Lipka/Lee? Just sad...

I wonder if the coach showed up for the last few games? You would think with his excellent skills, winning would be easy for McKinney.

The team that was better each day won on those days. Rockwall was better 2 out of 3. I guess the better team did win. Chew on that.
If anyone is even hinting that Lee/Lipka are the reason for this fiasco they need their head examined.

If you watched the games, you would now that Lee pitched a brilliant game Thursday night and Lipka was almost as good on Friday. Lee knocked in three runs on Thursday to help seal that game and both kids found ways to get on base throughout the weekend, they just couldn't get home. Lipka hit some great shots that just happened to be right at someone.. Both kids made some unbelievable defensive plays.. Lee and Lipka are studs... They have been since before they stepped foot on campus.

No.. I think credit needs to be given to the tough little bunch at Rockwall. They seem to be a team with a little more depth and a roster of kids and a coach that scratched and clawed their way to two hard fought victorys. It happens.. It's baseball.

There are always lots of decisions to be made in a playoff series regarding where/when you are playing; One game or three; Who should pitch what game etc.. It seems there are some coaches that always seem to make the right decisions and push the right buttons. I believe some just have a knack along with a little luck and then there are some are that are fine people but things just don't seem to fall right for them... There will be only one State Champion in each class.. All the other teams are going to be saying.. What if? Life moves on...

I don't think anyone is saying that the two McKinney kids are not great players..They are! However some credit needs to be given to the Rock team pitching. A one hitter on Friday night and a Soph complete game on Sat afternoon. Remember one coach does not get to make the decision on a one game series vs a two out of three. They have to agree or have a coin flip.
First off, kudos to Rockwall for a great win. They played well. They won. No excuses. They scored 5 runs in 3 games and won. They got the timely hits when they needed them. Simple as that. There players and fans were class acts. Goodluck as they go on to a state run. Congratulations to the Mckinney Lions for an outstanding season going undefeated in district,14-0, and their fourth consecutive 9-4A district championship.

"Chew on that" is your best response? Wink This isn't a UFC fighters page brainiac. Ask anyone around the state, pound for pound, MHS was the better team on paper. But paper doesn't win high school baseball playoff games. As far as the Rockwall pitching, I didn't see a lot of scouts at the last two games so I'd be careful about touting their brilliance. A blind puppy will find his peter every now and then...and your pups found there's. That's baseball...Congrats to Rockwall for a "collective team" win.

We need more posts like this.
Colleyville
Mckinney
Rowlett
Poteet
HP

All out, and the list goes on...

Take a snapshot and you may wonder 'how in the heck did this happen?' Follow the game long enough and the answer is clear as day, summed up in one short phrase...That's Baseball.

The big dogs don't always win, that's what makes it fun.

Give 'em he#@ all you puppies out there!
Rock Dad - Chew on that? Please don't take offense to me thinking that MHS is the better team. I don't have a dog in this fight just making an observation. I feel if MHS and Rockwall played 5 weeks 2 games each week MHS would win 7 or more. Rockwall had a deeper pitching staff and that was the difference. MHS was the favorite coming in and Rockwall was the favorite on Saturady - All because of pitching. Congrats to you and Rockwall baseball team as they won it were it counted on the field.

Lee and Lipka oustanding job on the hill, 14 innings and only 2 runs!
It doesn't really matter who would win if they play more than what they did in the 1st round of playoffs. Rockwall won. They may not be be the better team on paper but that does not win ball games. Lee and Lipka are great players. No doubt.

Triple Threat- It doesn't matter if there weren't as many scouts in the stands on Friday and Saturday. They were obviously there to see Lee pitch. Wesley Cox pitched a one hitter against a No. 8 state ranked team. Maybe there wasn't scouts but he pitched probably one of the best games he has pitched all year. Rockwall deserves more credit they got. Their timely hits and good pitching won the series for them.

Whoa fellas -- let's save it for the year-end banquet. Cool

Regarding who's better and such...isn't that the beauty of baseball? I think it's safe to say that the best team (on paper) seldom wins a state championship. Think of the enormity of the task, especially with the rules regarding each playoff series. So, when one team is left standing, they are crowned "State Champions" not..."The best team in Texas". You know, the same holds for that other sport now that there are a multitude of divisions on each level.

I don't know the facts, but if any coach -- not calling anyone out or criticizing any of you out there -- enters the playoffs with a #3 with no experience......well.....good luck with all that. Pardon the grammer CS. Smile There are some wild game 3's!

Congrats to those that won 1st round matchups -- it will get harder.
Why does everyone insist on throwing around this "better team" phrase? Isn't it enough that you moved on? How a team looks on paper doesn't matter during the regular season, but it especially doesn't matter in the post season.

Regardless, Hillcrest isn't going to be the free W some in Rockwall might think. I expect Rockwall to move on in 3, but then again I expected the same of McKinney.
There are some valid points being made.

* Hillcrest is never an easy win becaue they have a great Head Coach in Mike Tovar.
* The point about having a #3 with experience is valid even with the lefty throwing a solid game. Maybe he was left in to long because there was nobody prepared to turn too.
* No scoring after game one. Well this has been an issue for McKinney all season from what I can tell. Look at runners left on base all season.
* "Some coaches just seem to push the right buttons or make the right call at the right time" True but I saw in the box score that Lee had 2 sacrafice bunts to move Lipka to second base. Not sure why the fastest kid in the country 6.3 60 yard dash can not steal a base in high school.

Either way I am sure all the players, parents and coaches are very disappointed. I bet they would trade the 14-0 district record for one more win against Rockwall.
