Two very talented teams duking it out for a berth to the state tournament!!

HP not allowing many runs.........MN seemingly scoring at will!! I realize MN hasn't seen anything like Mr. Kershaw, but you have to respect what the Bulldogs have done throughout the playoff run so far. It's a shame one of these two teams will have to lose. They are both great squads.

This will be a fun one to watch!

Good luck to both teams!

They do have Bolsinger and Appleby they can put on the mound.
Just got home from the game. Here are my observations/opinions: McKinney North gamble on pitching went south in the first inning. Gave up too many runs. North batters showed no fear against Kershaw. Ump was inconsistent at the plate for both teams. It was tough on hitters. North may be a stronger hitting lineup than HP.

Game 2/3 should be good ones. Come out and enjoy.
Looks like Coach Milam is taking the same stance as Swing Doc took in the play-offs. Get into first one and take your chances against the other guys stud. Then come back at him with your #1 in game two. North's got a pretty good 1-2 punch while H.P. has tradition, a good coach and the 1 game to none lead. The Ballpark in Allen should be packed tomorrow night. Get there early as parking near the field is tough come by. I'd be there, but the Vegas and Black are in action. baseball7
Reckon BJ could put out some folding chairs and get a valet parking crew?

We tried to keep it away from 'em and run out the clock, but it didn't work.

Maybe we'll run it right at 'em tomorrow night.

And, the second base guy wasn't even inconsistent. Maybe they can put him in LF tomorrow night.

During the National Anthem, I noticed the second base ump had shown up with his zebra shirt on.

I was a little worried, until I saw our strategy.....and then I thought he could help us for awhile, but I was wrong.

Was priviledged to be formally introduced to the doctor of swing after the game. After we restated our revised positions on bad high school coaches, bad baseball parents, and umps that wear the wrong shirt to the game, we hit it off pretty good.

I was happy to see we're in the same weight division. On the umpires ~ I guess when you don't have a dog in the fight you see things differently ~ My observations ~ 1b blew two calls, one each way, 2b blew one call, plate was called the same both ways. Thats while watching the game with 5 former HS buddies and yapping the whole time. Like I said - If I had been on the bucket, I might have felt differently. Good to finally meet you F.O.

First time I have got to see MN play and was impressed with their team speed. Nico Taylor looks like a senior in college instead of a soph in high school. Tonight will be a dogfight ~ no pun intended. Old Pitcher ~ where were you last night?

Had to hold down the fort at Frozen Ropes!! I hated to miss an opportunity to see Kershaw and North! Can't be there tonight either! cry

Tomorrow night is graduation for my daughter, so I'm out for all 3. I'd love to see the Dawgs pull it off and I predict they will win the next 2 and head to Round Rock next week.

You're comments about Nico Taylor are right on! This kid is a monster. I was talking to his dad on the phone all night getting updates. Nico's talent is way beyond his years. Has been since he was 12 years old. Another one of the 08 class that will have a tough decision to make after his senior year.

Tell FO hello for me if you're over there tonight.

Nico Taylor sure passes the eye ball test as far as potential goes. He's got a nice swing, power big body and some speed. He 's gonna be a good one. He just missed a couple of Kershaws Hammers.

This was the first time I saw Kershaw and I liked what I saw, not just the FB but the way he handled himself on the mound. He has a lot of composure for a kid, That was nice to see.

Let's face it North pooped on themselves by walking 5 guy's in the first two innings. I dont know any team that can win by doing that.

As far as Norths choice for a starter in game one I'm a firm believer of riding the horse that brought you.

If I'm wearing the Orange and Blue, I play em the same way Milam is playing em. He knows his kids and he's seen Kershaw. Question is after 3, why not pull Kershaw and have him for some innings on Friday if needed? Those 3 he had thrown would amount to an extended bullpen session. 2nd guessing ~ No way ~ Just throwing out the hulled corn. Lets hear it from some of the gurus.
Exactly swingdoc ----- in 2003 (I know, no one wants to hear about it!) --- we were run-ruled by Lufkin in game 1. They had a kid that is in pro-ball now -- Roger Whitaker -- threw 96-97 in HS. The Lufkin coach could have pulled Whitaker after 2-3, rather than throw him 5. We swept the next day. He came back in game 3 but was ineffective.

The HP coach could have pulled Kershaw after 2 or 3 and had a little in the tank for game 3, if needed.

Oh well....that's why they pay us the big bucks to coach from here! Smile

So, a Dodger scout is "chasing" a HS sophomore? Ummm....why?

I'm with the Dr. on this one. Milam played it the way I would have done it as well.

However, I'd venture to say getting beat 13-1 is not exactly getting the "job done." (Yeah, CTR, I think we can read between the lines and know what you mean. Smile) Getting the job done would have meant taking CK 7 innings, and not risking the possibility of seeing him again late in game three or, heaven forbid, starter for game three if rains hits. Playing a solid defensive game might have been more in line with getting the job done, as well. But we know what you mean.

Which leads me to this: Anybody know what happens if either of the games gets rained out? That is, do they have to get the games in by a certain date? Could they play two on Friday if tonight's get rained out? Is it a matter of another coin flip. I mean, that could spell D-I-S-A-S-T-E-R for Milam' strategy.

I don't have an exact pitch count but I believe it was around 90-100. With the draft next week... I seriously doubt if he will or should take the mound again this week.
Second base ump, still wearing his zebra shirt, and the rest of them with traffic cop hats and whistles, looked like the were directing traffic at a four way red light near the mall on a Foley's Red Apple Day sale.

McKinney North 17
HP 0
Umps 1

Umps will wear their Village People uniforms Friday night and perform 'Macho Man' between inning with 10 warmumps.

Read it and weep Schaumberg, you rascal.

Swingdoc, you like the Village People, don't you?
