Just went to the Doctor on Monday after my son (15 year old sophomore in High School, catcher) experienced a pop in his throwing elbow on Sunday. Son had just been released on 1/9/13 after requiring a three week rest due to a diagnosed MCL sprain. Had thrown the football around in baseball class a little bit prior to the weekend and experienced no pain. Things were looking good as he had already been told he was going to be on Varsity and was not going to have to try out and he was pretty excited about the upcoming season.

Doctor said he is definitely out for another 4 weeks and will know more once we go in next Monday to review the MRI that he has already taken. Unfortunately we are expecting the worse as he can not even open a car door right now without feeling some pain. Needless to say this has not been a good week and of course the wait is not helping. He has a twitter account which his Mom monitors and he tweeted about being totally disappointed and wondering if he should stop baseball. He had growth play problems last year and tendonitis as well and was not even able to throw the ball for tryouts.

With this in mind I began reviewing old topics on MCL and UCL sprains and PM'd some of the original posters and the response and amount of information that was provided was just wonderful. I would like to publicly thank those of you who I have contacted and responded and realize this website is going to be a great asset in going through this process. Wanted to post this because I do not post on here as much as some and I am sure there are others like me who are just readers and may not want to contact the people that do post on here, but if you are hesitant, I highly recommend doing so as more than likely you will be overwhelmed with the friendly and caring information you will receive. There are some posters on here that are known to be a little blunt or rough around the edges, but you can tell who those are if you have been reading this board for awhile.

As for my son we are expecting that his sophomore season will be lost and want to make sure that the course of action we take will not make him miss his junior year as well. For now it will be a week of praying until we visit the Doctor on Monday and also the second opinion I have scheduled the same week on Wednesday.

I hope your son doesn't get too discouraged and will grind through the difficulty, both physically and mentally. No doubt it's a very disappointing and scary position to be in. But. . .he can come back stronger than ever as he matures. It's only is sophomore year and he has plenty of time to have a very successful HS baseball career and even beyond. He just has to be determined to do what it takes to achieve his goals. I hope he chooses to do that and wish for him the VERY best.
