So who else has a team entered in a Memorial Day tournament and how do your team's chances look?

Our pool looks to fit us well with one strong team, one team that should be about equal to us and one weak team. We're playing the team equal to us this evening so we'll have a pretty good idea of how the tournament is going to go by later tonight.

If we do make it to the semis we'll probably play the strongest team in the tournament on Monday morning. They are basically a select (pay to play, coached by Cy Young winner) team playing down for this tournament.

We are scheduled to play in Seattle. I like our chances but there are some powerhouse teams also playing. If we play our "A" game we should have a strong showing.

Normally this time of the year the weather cooperates, however, our LL game last night was rained out. More rain today. If it keeps up it could be a painful weekend for some ball players around here.

Good

The other team wasn't very strong at all. Probably equivalent to a LL all-star B team. We won 8-0. My son threw 4 innings facing 14 batters. He was 1 for 2 with a double, a walk and a line out. We batted the entire lineup of 12 kids. Our hitting wasn't as good as it will need to be. We did have our #12 hitter, a little guy who hit about .240 during the regular season hit a three run homer. The wonder of big barrels.

Saturday we face a USSSA AAA team that easily beat the #1 ranked super series American division team in So Cal. Sunday we play a pretty weak team. If we lose on Saturday we'll probably play the 10th ranked USSSA major team in So Cal in the semis. The kids should get in at least 4 games and play a couple decent teams while also getting a couple relatively easy victories.

I was just talking to the owner of the local indoor cages and he mentioned that this USSSA major team charges $100 for kids to tryout. I've heard they also charge $250 or $300 / mo.

Hey CADAD:

We were at the SoCal State Championships in San Clement competing in the 14U American Division. We had a great time, finished in second and being so close to the beach made for a great family vacation. I recommend tournaments at this location to anyone that might be interested. Is this the tournament your team competed in.

No. We stayed local, a bit further north. Our tournament was won by the SoCal Ravens in our age group, 12u. We were 2-1 in pool play and made it to the semifinals. The other pool was stronger and both teams from our pool lost in the semi's. The teams had strong hitting but the pitching was only decent.
My team was not playing last weekend, but my son filled in for another team that played in Pigeon Forge, TN. They finished 2nd in the tourney. He doubled in the tying and go ahead run in the top of the seventh in the championship game. The other team tied the game in the bottom of the seventh. Son then came in to close the game and a combination of timely hits and four infield errors cost them the game. He went from hero to goat in one inning. That's baseball though, he closed the semi-final game with the last three outs on 6 pitches. You can't win them all.
