They haven't done anything like that in the past. The only info you can get is to purchase at the gate a program with all rosters that the coaches turn in at arrrival. Usually $30.00 or so. This is a fund raiser for the organization and they make the money any way they can. If you have not been before, expect it to be HOT, at least one horrific rain during your stay and a pretty quality tournament.
Thanks for response. Husband and daughter are flying out from San Francisco tomorrow to watch my son play at this tournament. Neither have been to Memphis...or to the Southeast in summer! Should be interesting for them. Thanks for tip on the heat..my son has indicated that the weather reminded him of Costa Rica. Any must-do's in Memphis..i.e. good place to eat on Beale Street. Figuring husband might be able to grab son away from team for one evening..if you can think of a place that might appeal all around to 18 year old guy (and possibly a few teammates), please pass it along.
If he's going to Beale Street try The Rendevous. Famous Bar-B-Que. A little hard to find but worth the trip. It is down a side alley. Several other quality spots on Beale Street including Rum Boogie Cafe and BB Kings. Other than that, your husband may be interested in touring Graceland...the home of the King, Elvis Presley. Not sure if the kids would appreciate it. Other than that, Memphis is just Memphis. Make sure he stays in a safe area and even then keep his valuables under lock and key. I lived there pretty much all my life until just recently, so I know by first hand experience. Even at the games last summer they had break in's in the parking lot. Park as close to the front row as you can.
Try www.memphistigers.net Click on the All American Tournament link on the left. My son is also playing in this tournament. We live in Illinois, about 30 miles from St. Louis. We are making the 5 hour road trip on Sat. morning because he has 2 games on Sat. and 1 for sure on Sunday. We also have a favorite BBQ place in Memphis called Corkys.

Newcomer, what team does your son play for and what position? Mine plays for the Rawlings Prospects.
HEY...the website is great!! There's even a couple of short videos..hard to tell which teams are filmed..but it's pretty cool. Here's my next question..as I'm trying to mapquest the various fields for my husband..I can figure out all of them except which field is "University of Memphis"..it looks like it's a minorleague ball park called Autozone Park..does anybody know if there is another field on the campus that this tournament might be playing..or is it Autozone Park? Thanks for all the great input here!!
The other two fields (Gagliano and Sowell) are located off of Mt Moriah Rd which is exit 17 off of I-240. I believe the physical address for mapquest is 2590 Mt Moriah. It kind of sits back off the road so you could bypass it if you are not looming for it. It actually sits behind a football stadium. Also, a point od reference is across from Hooters. The U of Memphis is located off of Getwell Rd.

Corky's IMO is better than Rendevous, but since you were looking for something on Beale Street, that was my suggestion.
Welcome to Memphis!!!

Good info provided above. I recommend BB King's on Beale St. in downtown Memphis for the 18 yr olds and Adults. Its a good place to see live music and eat some BBQ Ribs or Fried Cat Fish at the same time! You can check out BB King's place on the web to see who's playing and at what time. Also nearby is the Gibson guitar factory/museum if any are seriously into music. Corky's is good if you're just going for food, they have take out too, if pressed for time.

Drink lots of water continuously to avoid dehydration. Don't forget the sun screen. My hubby's from the bay area and misses home the most during the summer here!

Don't worry too much about the weather. Can't do nuthin 'bout it Wink We have been in a pretty bad drought situation since the fall, so some locals are praying for rain. However, the forecast for any rain that might come is of the afternoon heat build up type shower that is very hit or miss. It can literally be raining on the house across the street and not on you! The rain can end as quickly as it starts. Being from the bay area I'm sure you know all about quick changing weather! Bring a poncho and hope for the best. Big Grin

Another area for shopping and dining is in Collierville---From I-240 Head east on Hwy 385 a/k/a Bill Morris Pkwy Exit at Houston Levee and the new shopping area will be on your right/south
There you will find Carrabas, Bonefish, Firebirds, Japanese w/habachi and sushi, Crepes, Cheeburger ", Blue Coast Burrito, etc...and all sorts of shopping. The historic square in Collierville offers more unique restaurants, Pasta Italia (Great food RSVP & $$), Cafe Italia (Casual Great Dessert Coffee & Bar open very late) and the Silver Caboose (Homestyle lunch 11-2 only) to name a few plus a new one that opened within train cars on the track (Tropicana?) for a "vintage" dining car experience and the square is very nice to visit. To get to the square take Hwy 385 and Exit at Byhalia Rd (this is the next exit after Houston Levee). Turn Left/North onto Byhalia Rd and drive a few blocks to Poplar Ave. Turn Right on Poplar Avenue drive approx. 1+ mile to Main Street and turn right drive down two blocks and you will be at the square.

Good Luck and Hope everyone enjoys their visit.

Ya'll come back now ya hear!
