Not sure what to think of the recent trend.  More and more of the ESPN baseball and football analysts and guests are sporting the traditional suits but wearing athletic footwear.

The practical, comfort side of me says "heck yeah".  The traditional side of me says "what the heck is that?".

The suit is supposed to say I take this event seriously and look at it with proper respect and/or professionalism.  The sneakers say the opposite.  Personally, I never really liked the idea of these guys wearing suits to begin with.  Sort of similar to basketball coaches wearing them (and BTW, that's probably the next place we'll see the suit/tennie combo in full force).  Just doesn't seem to match the environment to me.  Wear a really nice polo with the appropriate decoration, either school or network.

Opinions?  Come on, this is really important stuff.  I've got some fashion decision to make

In the early 1980's, when I was at an airport traveling from somewhere to somewhere else while on active duty in the Marines, I recall seeing the NY Mets walking from one of the gates. And there was Rusty Staub, probably around age 40 at the time, in a handsome suit and tie... and white sneakers.

I just wanted to point out that Rusty and the NY Mets set that fashion standard years ago. :-)

Wear what is comfortable for you in various situations.  Suits have their place.  Sneakers have their place if you have to do a lot of standing or walking.  Ugly golf pants and shirts have their place too.  But, I'm partial to Joe Maddon and his pajama party garb.  That is a man with style!

Not sure I can give Rusty the nod as fashion advisor, NYdad...

I think he also went thru a phase where he wore golf gloves in place of batting gloves
