Congrats to Thompson and Forney for a good game. Getting the second win will be even tougher. Thompson was 3-4 with a triple, and he was good (as usual) on the mound. He really didn't command his CB or Change-up at all, but these set up his fastball, which he located well.
Poteet may have been surprised when Forney came out sharp. I'm sure Coach Doe wasn't surprised, but not sure about his players. Surprisingly, little Doe made a big mistake when he went to back up 2B on a steal play. The second baseman had the bag and sure enough, the batter hit the ball exactly to the spot Doe vacated. This led directly to the first two runs for Forney. Whatever, Poteet won't be surprised again. Blackmon will probably start against Nowell in Game 2, and you've gotta favor Poteet, but this is baseball, so you never know.
The first out at the plate happened when the runner was held at 3B, then sent when the left fielder didn't field the ball cleanly. By the time the runner re-started, the fielder had time to pick the ball up and he made a great throw home.
There was one other funny play. The Forney batter thought he got hit by a pitch and trotted to first base. There was a runner at first and he trotted to second. The umpire didn't think it was a hit batsman, and never put his hands in the air to signal dead ball. After both runners arrived at 1B and 2B, the umpire said, "you, here" and pointed the batter back to the plate, and "you, there" and pointed the other runner back to 1B. This was a mistake, according to the rules. The ball was live and the runner advanced to 2B at his own risk and should've been allowed to stay there. No one said anything, and the runner was placed on 1B and the game continued without incident. I just found it all interesting.
