If you're the coaches, what's your pitching strategy for the series? Here's mine, for what it's worth (and probably an indication as to why I'm not coaching High School Baseball.

Poteet Coach

I throw Teddy in game 1 because I believe that will produce a victory and I trust I can win at least one of the next two with my other starters and our bats.

Forney Coach

I throw Thompson or Blackmon in game 1. With good outings and some bat support, we can possibly win this game. then, depending on the outcome of game 1, I can be selective on who throws game 2. That would be Woodruff if we lost game one or won game 1. I would still have a very good starter left if game three is needed.

I believe the offense is basically equal with the possible (proven in the past) exception of when Teddy is pitching. Without Teddy on the mound, I believe it is an equal matchup.

Granted, I have not seen Poteet play, but, from what I have gleaned in the DMN and this website, you can Never, ever count Poteet out. HOwever, I don't think one can totally count Forney out either.

Thoughts? Strategies? Opinions?
It's Final

R H E
Forney 5 8 1
Poteet 1 7 3?

Not sure about the Poteet errors. Web announcer said 3, I had 2.

Overall a good game the best I could tell on the web. I'm sure Teddy will be throwing tomorrow. Will Boxley put Woodruff up against him, or throw Blackmon to the wolves (blood thirsty Pirates)? I'm not sure I would want to be throwing to the Pirates tomorrow. They will be very HUNGRY.

Poteet threw a Tyler Dowse (sp?) for the first 6 1/3. He pitched a great game, but I think 2, maybe 3 of the runs he gave up were unearned (I know the first two were unearned.
I think you throw Blackmon and let it be Vance vs. Poteet's #2 or #3.

Forney lost 2 potential runs on dumb base running. First inning a player was waved home and he let up, then continued on and was thrown out at home. Later in the game on a sacrifice squeeze the batter missed the bunt.

Jrabbit dad you were probably right, those announcers were terrible

Congrats to Thompson and Forney for a good game. Getting the second win will be even tougher. Thompson was 3-4 with a triple, and he was good (as usual) on the mound. He really didn't command his CB or Change-up at all, but these set up his fastball, which he located well.

Poteet may have been surprised when Forney came out sharp. I'm sure Coach Doe wasn't surprised, but not sure about his players. Surprisingly, little Doe made a big mistake when he went to back up 2B on a steal play. The second baseman had the bag and sure enough, the batter hit the ball exactly to the spot Doe vacated. This led directly to the first two runs for Forney. Whatever, Poteet won't be surprised again. Blackmon will probably start against Nowell in Game 2, and you've gotta favor Poteet, but this is baseball, so you never know.

The first out at the plate happened when the runner was held at 3B, then sent when the left fielder didn't field the ball cleanly. By the time the runner re-started, the fielder had time to pick the ball up and he made a great throw home.

There was one other funny play. The Forney batter thought he got hit by a pitch and trotted to first base. There was a runner at first and he trotted to second. The umpire didn't think it was a hit batsman, and never put his hands in the air to signal dead ball. After both runners arrived at 1B and 2B, the umpire said, "you, here" and pointed the batter back to the plate, and "you, there" and pointed the other runner back to 1B. This was a mistake, according to the rules. The ball was live and the runner advanced to 2B at his own risk and should've been allowed to stay there. No one said anything, and the runner was placed on 1B and the game continued without incident. I just found it all interesting.
