As always, follow the $$$. That's an extra $44K.

Although it's understood that it's a privately run venture, and the organization has every right to include/exclude anyone they wish, it would be nice if they were forthcoming with certain aspects.

Let's just say that it's clear that not all selections appear to have been made based on performance and ability. No disrespect to those boys selected, congrats to them on being given the opportunity.

I count at least 8 players from Jesuit. Is there some connection there that guarantees Jesuit players a spot? Are they just loaded w/ college prospects?

I'm expecting some negative feedback from posting anything less than positive about the league, but hey, hopefully their perspective is to be open to criticism, eager to value an opportunity to improve.

Critic,

Please call me with your views. I would like to know the issues and either address them with you or with other MSL personnel. 972-387-3228

I forget to address the 21 player rosters.

Last year we had 18 player rosters, 6 pitchers and 12 Hitters. Last year we also played 12 innings.

This year we have 21 player rosters, 7 Pitchers and 14 Hitters. And this year we are playing 14 innings.

The reason for the larger rosters is the Texas Stix, Ft. Cats, and Arlington A’s players were encouraged by their organizational heads to play in the league if invited. Last year we did not have this privilege.

Recap:

2008: 18 players, 12 innings = 36 outs divided by 12 hitters is guaranteed at least 3 at bats (if a perfect game is pitched) . 6 pitchers divided by 12 innings guaranteed at least 2 innings each.

2009: 21 players, 14 innings = 42 outs divided by 14 hitters = guaranteed 3 at bats. 7 pitchers divided by 14 innings guaranteed at least 2 innings each.

Wow isn’t that amazing!!!!! Who would have every thought that we just threw this all together without thinking it out and the math would work out the same. We are either the luckiest 3 people in the world or we actually thought this out…. I will let you decide.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion so I'm entitled to mine. I smell a son not invited nor selected through tryouts. Thus 1 post. What adult in their right mind sits up and counts players from individual schools? With comments from posters like this PD I'm going to to hit 1000 before you know it.

It would be interesting to know what percentage of these kids will actually sign or get offers as compared to previous years. I realize each class is diferent with some being stronger than others but it would still be interesting to know in a year or so. Also has this league generated more interest in DFW kids than was there before it's inception. I would think the big names would be known whether they participated or not but surely it has to help those borderline cases regardless of how many teams or kids are on a roster as long as they get some playing time.

As far as making money off kids, I don't think you can expect anyone to do this for nothing. Having 3-6 "select" teams playing under one umbrella at younger ages and the fees charged is "all about the money" in my opinion, but there are a few guilty organizations doing it and that is an argument for another discussion. Probably would have to be on another messaage board so nobody complains about it being pre-highschool Smile
For what it's worth, here's a personal experience to consider.

My kid tried out and was not selected. Definitely disappointing and frustrating, especially missing on the opportunity that is available. It's easy to have feelings of "my kid's a better player than many that made it," etc. It's also easy to feel that it didn't help that he has no tie to the DBAT organization, etc. Not angry or bitter, I wanted to seek some information and advice.

I hope Cade doesn't mind me posting this, but I decided to give him a call. He doesn't know me, and I suspected he didn't know my kid from the hundreds he's seen or heard of. I asked for some honest feedback on what stood in the way of him making the league, and for some general advice on this entire process.

Cade spent probably 30-45 minutes on the phone with me answering any question I had and giving me some honest, critical feedback on my kid. He actually knew of him, and was very aware of him and his tryout experience. He offered any assistance in the future in any way he could.

I truly appreciated his honesty and sincere advice. My guess is he'd provide this to anyone who cared to seek it out.

I preface my remarks with this--this is not a complaint. The guys who run this league are more than entitled to populate the teams in any manner they see fit. They certainly handled the actual try-out in a fair manner.

My son started last year as a junior at a very strong state-ranked 5-A program. He wanted the opportunity to play MSL to 'get seen' if possible

However, he won't be playing MetroScout. His summer coach recommended him for an invite. He was not extended one. Obviously, I don't know why.

He then tried out and was not selected. There was a strong group of players who were not invited, and thus were left with the try-out route. I venture to say it's very likely that many of the players trying out were more accomplished than some who were invited.

My own son was not the strongest at his position during the try-out--but he was far from the weakest. I don't know how many at that position were actually selected.

I do note that several of the positions are taken up by Juniors, and some by Seniors that have already committed to college programs. That does seem somewhat inconsistent with what I thought was the purpose of the league. Perhaps I was mistaken.

Why would scouts want to see kids that were already committed? I was under the impression this league was formed to help those who were trying to get looks.

I also think that listing the summer team each kid plays for along with their high school would be and interesting bit of information.

If I'm not mistaken no one at this point has signed a Letter of Intent. let’s say a player has committed to a DII or DIII and now the skills have improved and a DI is now interested; need to broaden your scoop.

Guys pray for a dry Sunday. We are now up to 28 RSVP's for week 1. 13 more than last year on week 1.

Pray on Sunday. There's a good one. Go Cowboys!

Also, would like to point out that the majority of those players from Jesuit are mustangs, and are also very good players. It might be too early to start ranking teams, but they will surprise next year.
