BARQUISIMETO, Venezuela -- McKinney High's Zach Lee pitched the U.S. Youth National Team to the gold medal in the World Youth Baseball Championships on Saturday.

Lee allowed one run and fanned eight batters in five innings to lead Team USA to an 8-2 victory over Brazil at Daniel Canonico Stadium.

Lee, who picked up his second victory of the tournament, struck out the first four batters he faced and only allowed six hits. In two starts, Lee allowed just one run, seven hits and fanned 14 over 10 innings.

Lee, a sophomore, earned District 9-4A Newcomer of the Year honors and helped McKinney reach the regional quarterfinals in the spring. Also McKinney's starting quarterback, Lee is expected to arrive at practice Monday. His role in Friday's season opener at Sulphur Springs is unkown.

CONGRATS to all the USA team, especially those Texas boys.

Zach always comes up big so this does not surprise me, congratulations to Zach and his entire family.

Having known Zach and his family for quite a while I must say it could not have happen to a better kid or family. I know my son and our family appreciate the way Zach and his family always support teammates. Zach is an outstanding pitcher and an even better teammate!
