Had a chance to see Michael Main, the top rated 16 yr old by Baseball America pitch last week. Main justified his status by featuring a low 90's fastball that he was around the plate with all night. He also showed a plus curveball, he overthrew it at times and it acts more like a slurve at this point. He also showed an impressive change up for a sophmore. Main displayed great mound presence and poise, had a very quick move to first and looked very athletic fielding his position off the mound. Certainly one of the top pitchers in high school in the Central Florida area and only a sophmore at that. With continued development will certainly be a top 2007 draft pick.

There is a good article on him in the Orlando paper today. PG Staff is quoted.

quote:
"One of my goals is to throw 100 miles per hour as a senior," Main said Wednesday, a day after pitching a two-hitter against Winter Springs. "I don't know if that's going to happen. But I feel like it's something I have to strive for. When you set your goals high, you've got to work hard to try to get them."

Ford said Main threw 89 mph at age 14 in a Perfect Game showcase in Fort Myers to jump onto the scouting charts. Last September, he topped out at 94 mph in a relief appearance against Cuba for the USA Baseball 16s team. A month later, his fastball was clocked at 96 mph by one radar gun and 95 by another in a Team One showcase in Tampa.

sad to hear about him having an arm injury, but it happens to a lot of guys that are throwing that hard at age 15-16, but to say already he will be a top draft pick isnt for sure, WAY to early to say that. Plenty of examples of players that were HIGHLY ranked at 15-16 and fell off. My hope is that Michael just keeps working and gets over this arm thing quick. it seems a lot of guys that get ranked high early seem to get cocky and stop working. Nothing is guaranteed, but no diss to perfect game and baseball america, but they have no draft pick. I just hope Michael keeps working to reach his full potential.
