From Smoaky.com:

"Will Middlebrooks has verbally committed to play college baseball at Texas A&M.

The multi-sport star is a pitcher on Liberty-Eylau's baseball team that won the Class 3-A State Championship.

He's also the punter, kicker, and quarterback on their football team."

Alot of the DFW crowd probably does not know about this kid. He plays for 3A state champion Libery Eyleau which is a "suburb" of Texarkana.

He is an absolute flamethrower - the hardest throwing '07 I have seen yet. He throws his 95+ mph fastball for strikes. He is very raw with his other pitches but I am sure that A&M plans on polishing him up and make him a legitimate power pitcher.

The funny thing is that he doesn't show up on any "lists" of top prospects because he probably doesn't get the exposure that alot of the DFW and Houston area kids get. I think this was a great pickup for A&M.

I do know about the "lists" - that's why I put that remark in there. I haven't figured out how to show my sarcasm yet on this board.

To the best of my knowledge Middlebrooks never showed up on any PG, AC, Jason Becker, etc. lists AT ALL. But to anyone who saw him in a game it was obvious that he can pitch. I think Childress is going to get A&M up to the top in Big 12 baseball.
Give it time Texan. It was their first year with the majority of the players on their roster not recruited by them.

Just think, before the draft they signed..................

Clayton Kershaw - 1st round
Matt Sulentic- 3rd round
Zach Britton- 3rd round

and many others. Weren't many big time prospects signing with A&M in years before were there?

Give it time, it will happen. Rob and Matt are as good as it gets.
Didn't take much time huh Texan?

Fifth place finish in the Big 12. 23rd in Collegiate Baseball poll. 17th in Baseball America.

Johnson went 45-19, 2nd in Big 12, NCAA Regional Finals in 2003.
Then 42-22, 5th place in Big 12, but made it to the NCAA Super Regionals in 2004.
Yes, a down year in 2005.

Thirteen years to or beyond the Regionals.
Three years to or beyond the Super Regionals.
Twice to CWS (that is bigger than even the CMWS).
876 victories, 433 losses, and three ties in 21 years.
One of the winningest coaches in college baseball.

RC has a ways to go yet.

And if RC is such a great pitching coach, why does A&M only have two starters and no pen? Especially given the pitching talent they pulled in over the past several years?

I'm not holding my breath for RC to make a 20 year run like MJ did.

Just to keep things accurate regarding "lists"!

Not sure which list anyone is talking about, but Will Middlebrooks was named a Rawlings 1st Team “PRESEASON” All American. That list was selected by PG.

He is also presently ranked #27 in the nation on PGCrosschecker. BTW, he has never paid Perfect Game a dime or attended a Perfect Game event.
Early in the spring Middlebrooks was up to 94. Since then he has become a much better prospect as a position player. Here is a report in pgcrosschecker that our people filed on him recently.

Will Middlebrooks SS/RHP Sr. R-R 6-4 210 Liberty Eylau HS Texarkana (Texas A&M) 8-13-88
SCOUTING REPORT: Middlebrooks was one of the hottest names in the country out of the blocks in February, as not only had crosscheckers not seen him yet but many area scouts needed their first looks at him as well. Early reports of Middlebrooks being a sure first-round talent were premature, both as a player and a pitcher, but Middlebrooks has solid top-two round tools. Middlebrooks is a rarity in this era; he didn’t play at all on the showcase/summer-tournament circuit and was better known for his football exploits in northeast Texas , where he was a 3-A all-state punter and prolific quarterback. Scouts have Middlebrooks evaluated as a better position prospect at present, although they project him at third base at the professional level. He has easy plus arm strength, good hands and balance, and very good power potential, although his swing doesn’t excite all scouts. He was hitting close to .600 on the season. On the mound, Middlebrooks (8-0, 0.85) has been up to 94 mph but his secondary stuff and pitching mechanics are still on the raw side. Middlebrooks’ signability to Texas A&M is considered strong, so teams will need to bear down on him late to get a good feel for his intentions.

Here's another earlier crosschecker report.

His combination of size, athleticism and baseball talent has scouts talking about him as potential big leaguer both as an infielder and on the mound.

Here's another one from even earlier.

Will Middlebrooks, ss, Liberty Eylau HS, Texarkana, Texas. Middlebrooks was the hottest prospect in the country in early scout conversation, due in large part to the fact that many area scouts hadn’t even seen the multi-sport star on the baseball field, let alone crosscheckers. One cross checker described him as “a Cal Ripken-type shortstop who could be a top-of-the-rotation starter if you put him on the mound.”

And another.

Will Middlebrooks, Sr., Liberty Eylau HS, Texarkana, Texas
B-T: R-R. Ht./Wt.: 6-4/210.
Best Tools/Skills: Superior athletic ability, size/strength, arm strength, power potential.
2006 Statistics: .464-7-33.
Did You Know? Middlebrooks was named the 2006 Texas 3-A player of the year. In additional to his hitting skills, he went 15-2 on the mound. He was also selected first-team, all-state as a punter in football.
College Commitment: Texas A&M.
from a minnesota newspaper website:

I don’t consider myself to be a draft expert and never will be. Like most people, I just head over to Baseball America and pour through its excellent draft coverage.

Its recent mock draft has the Twins taking Texas high school third baseman Will Middlebrooks with the 28th pick of the first round. Here’s BA’ report on Middlebrooks:

Will Middlebrooks, 3b/rhp
School: Liberty-Elyau HS, Texarkana, Texas. Class: Sr.
B-T: R-R. Ht.: 6-4. Wt.: 215. Birthdate: 9/9/88.
Scouting Report: Kevin Ahrens isn’t the only blue-chip third-base recruit Texas A&M could lose to the draft. Where Ahrens gets compared with Chipper Jones, the more athletic Middlebrooks draws Cal Ripken Jr. and Scott Rolen comparisons. Selected to play in a Texas high school football all-star game, Middlebrooks drew college interest as a quarterback and punter. He’s also a 6-foot-4, 215-pound righthander with a low-90s fastball and an occasional plus curveball. But his future is at the hot corner. He’s not quite as polished a hitter as Ahrens, but he’s not far off and his size gives him leverage that will produce power. He’s an athletic third baseman with good range and a strong arm, and he runs well for his size. Middlebrooks is a consensus supplemental first-rounder, but he could sneak into the first round with the right club.

Note:He hit 95 pitching last week on the last 3 batters in the last inning after maintaining around 90 for the game; had 16K's (of 18 batters) in last night's 6 inning game against Commerce (regional semis); prefers position to pitching, though
