The Smithson Valley Rangers played Midland Christian
in the Fredericksburg tourney last night. The pitcher for them I believed his name was Winthrow(not sure on spelling) must have had 20-25 scouts there to look at him. Has anyone heard about this young man?

He signed to play at Baylor in November.

The pitcher is Chris Withrow. If you are interested in learning more, I suggest you pick up Jason Becker's Inside Prep Baseball preseason magazine. The cover story concerns Withrow and several other top West Texas hurlers.

My son's team played against Midland Christian last spring and we were quite impressed with Withrow's pitching. PG lists him at 6'3", 185 lbs., and rating a 9.5 at the 2006 National Showcase.

We see him twice a year in district and, yes, he's for real. Last year was 92-94. Haven't heard what he's throwing this year. Excellent location and change up.
