Midland Redskins

GOOD!

Their teams are annually some of the top in nation. They recruit from all over the country and all of their players are D-1 or pro prospects. Griffey played for them in the late-80s, and some of the big names now have been Cameron Maybin and Michael Burgess, among others

All I can say is wait until you see their roster for the WWBA in Jupiter in October!!!

Annually a top program, well run, classy and always an opportunity for fans to see some of the top players in the country. They will be a force in Jupiter as they usually are in East Cobb each year.

Followed the game from AABC WS on the computer a few weeks ago as they were eliminated by the S Troy Dodgers in a slugfest....My son said they were stacked and the Dodgers just had their day.

What age groups do they have?

The link doesn't really answer your question but I think the teams are ranked as follows:

Redskins - best team, 18u, National Roster

Indians - next best team(s), mostly 17u with some 18u players so I think they play at both levels.

Braves - lowest level, 17u or younger.

Information on the teams is hard to find so don't take this as the gospel. It's just my observation. Also, there's a "Tomahawks" team but I don't really think they're affiliated. Maybe somebody more in the know could elaborate.

From a friend whose then-16u son went this past summer, my understanding is that some of the younger kids will play for two or even all three of the teams at different times, if they show the ability to "play up". I think the teams are designed to be 16u, 17u and 18u but some players go back and forth depending on the teams' needs and the players' capabilities.

Midlo - any word on how he liked it? Any feedback?

How old is he? I've never heard of them. Maybe it's a new, younger team?

Beezer, he loved it and is probably going to return next year. He's trying to talk my son into it, too, though my son's not too keen on being away from his girlfriend for 9 weeks!

Got it Wayback. Thanks! Very interesting. Have you looked at their rosters from last years teams? That might give you an understanding of how the Black Sox compare to the Redskins and Indians teams.

Midlo - I can imagine my son saying the same thing but it would be an interesting dilema for him to face because he's expressed a desire to play for them. We've got a couple years yet to worry about that.

I have coached over the past 4-5 years with Dallas Baseball Academy of Texas (DBAT). My last stint was in 05' with a team that produced several draft picks as well as the #7 overall pick. We have never hooked up head to head, but have seen the Midland Redskins in several AABC World Series events as well as WWBC.

In my opinion, the Midland Redskins are very impressive bunch to watch on and off the field. They carry themselves very well. Always in team attire when off the field supporting their organization. Basically they portray organization and talent at it's finest.

I don't know any of the coaches or staff personally, but I can tell that someone within that organization has played or coached at a very high level. The things they do suggest someone has relayed how the game is supposed to be played on and off the field.

And a sidenote...........

The catcher they had this year, LSU signee, is the best "catcher" I have seen at this age level. Completly impressed me on his recieving skills and how he handled his pitching staff. I would look for this kid to play the game for quite some time.

you're correct that they take a "high level" teaching/coaching approach to the game, but that comes directly from the boss who had no college or pro experience

not sure about the significance of being "talked into" playing for them, unless it's Midland doing the talking

they are great folks who understand baseball & kids, however they'll produce a bus ticket (home) in an instant for anyone who is a problem.

Taylor was and surely still is a good catcher.

But like I said, the catcher for the Midland Redskins that I saw is again...........

The best catcher "I" have had a chance to watch at this age level.

Not comparing anyone, just saying.

I have a player on my HS team that played with them the last two years. This year he is only playing with them at the WWBA events. He liked it and said it was a good experience.

My son will also be playing on the Midland Black Sox this fall. Sounds like it will be a good experience.
