Recent articles on the negotiations between MiLB and Major League Baseball (MLB) are largely inaccurate. There have been no agreements on contraction or any other issues. MiLB looks forward to continuing the good faith negotiations with MLB tomorrow as we work toward an agreement that best ensures the future of professional baseball throughout the United States and Canada.
I think from a financial and player dev perspective it probably makes sense as scouting and coaching got better and less quantity is needed but it will also mean many kids will lose the ability to watch affordable pro ball so long term it could cost some fans.
But of course Manfreds job is to maximize mlb revenue over the next 5-6 years and not generate fans for 2035 as most owners are probably dead by then.
