Haha ... basicly he's competing for fans w/guys eating worms & dancing the "mombo" on TV --
golf leagues, LL, softball, bowling, swiming, water ski-ing, & folks picking their nose ..
(thank God Idol's over, anyway Smile) ---

he'll likely get a raise w/stock options if the publicity is right & there are butts in the seats ...
pass the video along!!!

I'll probably go on the chopping block for this, but never have found grown men throwing tempertantrums, funny.

To me,..it seemed like a flagrant dose of disrespect thrown in the umpires faces.

While if it were done during a Saturday Night Live skit, perhaps it might seem funny to me,...but this is a real baseball field, not a comedy night club stage. It happened during a legitimate game.
I truely respect the game of baseball and feel that those involved in the industry should also.
I found it in poor taste and juvenille. To me he was taking an aspect of the game and making a mockery out of it.

Never been one to walk away from a good joke, but the timing & location has to be right, IMHO.

Mr Wellmen,...I would hope you respect the game of baseball and that you also respect yourself.

Just lil' ol' stick-in-the-mud shortstawpmomma's humble and solo opinion.
( Me and my high-horse are going to get a head start at riding off into the sunset, before we get tarred and feathered!......) Wink

I'll take you at your word ... but look at what sells ... s-e-x, eating bugs, & acting stupid.

but kudos to your respect for the game -- tho to the powers that be, it's just another business .....
not a revered game Frown

I don't see that disrespecting the game. The coach made a fool of himself and it was comical to me. Disrespecting the game? Coach blow ups are as much a part of the game as having a hotdog in the stands with your kid. It's one of the many things that give the game such rich character. I love when a coach & the ump get in a face to face screaming match, and even better with some dirt kicking. The guys in blue always hold their ground and they always win, yet coaches still do it. It's part of the game, the character, the pastime, the personalities etc...

And remember, the diamond is a fun place, not a temple! Fun things happen there, thats why we all love it!

The coach crawling to the mound a throwing the grenade...Are you kidding me?...If you can't get a chuckle from that...Holy Cow...What was Frasier's
wife name on cheers? Lilith I believe. Jab
Tripledad,...even I know that Lilith's bun was worn waaay too tight,..and I expected some flack about my opinion.
Thats ok,...I stuck my neck out with my two cent opinion and I'm a big girl, I can take it.

I'm being honest. I didnt find the coaches antics funny. Stupid and ridiculous perhaps, but not funny.

Like Bee> said,...silly stuff sells.
Some are willing to buy into it, others aren't.

If that makes me a prude, then by golly I'm a proud prude,...heck I'll even accept the Proud Prude Princess title, and with that, I'll keep my money & take that title all the way to the bank. -ha!

Lilith, huh? Now THAT was funny!!!! Big Grin

Tripledad, my friend, no offence but you can pick on anyone on this sight but we are all over matched by SSMOM - she is a class act.

I thought the video was funny, but lets say that coach was your son.....would you be sending the link to all your family and friends.

I have got to believe that man has/will lose his job over this.
Shortstopmom,

As you're a fellow baseball fanatic, I would always give you wide room for lots of different opinions, so if it doesn't hit your funny bone, that's okay. I consider myself a baseball purist, despise the long pants and jewelry, sometimes called "old school", but am called in not-so-complimentary-fashion "stuck back in the day" by my two baseball-playing sons. I guess being a long suffering Orioles fan, I yearn for the Earl Weaver days when the O's actually won, and his antics were legendary.

I'm much more offended when they include the audio of these types of things as the "F Bomb" send me up a wall. The video on this guy didn't pick up his audio, likely a fortunate thing.

To each his own, but we'd likely agree that stupidity, or humor, on a baseball field beats communist kickball any day of the week.
Has anyone heard what events led to this meltdown ? While I agree he went way outside the norm to make whatever point he was going for, the rosin grenade was quite clever ! Personally I'd rather see these types of antics rather than a close range verbal assault then another damaged water cooler, chair, bat rack, etc...

The Atlanta Braves suspended minor league manager Phillip Wellman for three games Monday after he drew nationwide attention for his antics during an ejection Friday night. Schuerholz (Brave's GM) said the publicity the tape has drawn was not a factor in the team's decision.

"We make our own decisions based on our own judgments and evaluations," Schuerholz said. "We don't need to have other people tell us how we should react. I've been doing this for a long, long time."

(Brave's skipper) Cox praised the job Wellman has done in developing Atlanta's minor league players.

"Phil's a great guy," Cox said. "We love Phil."
"And a few days off for a minor league manager ain't that bad, either."

Wellman reportedly is remorseful, and in seclusion w/longtime friend - Captain Morgan ...
and is said to be undergoing therapy

Wellman (left) Captain Morgan Jr (right) 2 whahoo (shiney w/scales)

(** note - that would be physical therapy .. for a mild back strain suffered landing that wahoo ...
coupled with "hydration therapy" he should be rendered fit for duty, pronto) -
