Danny Sickles 20, a right-handed pitcher at Missouri Southern University, formerly of Polk Community College and Freedom High School in Orlando, FL, passed away on Saturday February 21, 2008. Danny fought flu-like symptoms last week and passed away at home. Doctors said he had bacterial infection known as meningococ cemia, the same bacteria that cause bacteria meningitis.

Bacteria Meningitis is a serious infection that can be deadly and strike quickly, but is preventable with a vaccine. Teenagers and college students are particularly vulnerable.

Danny will be buried in his Missouri Southern uniform, with a baseball signed by his teammates. Rest in peace Danny.

Do your child a favor. Get him or her vaccinated.

Thought his name sounded familiar. Dan Sickles, according to Google, was the name of a fairly famous Civil War General.

Don't all or most colleges require all students to have the vaccine?

Perhaps in college, not HS. One of my 3 kids was suspected of having this and had a spinal tap, which actually wasn't all that painful.
