Would love to see our catcher, Stephenson go #1...not sure it will happen but we're pulling for him big time. Best of luck to any and all of the local HS/college kids who have dreams as well, may your dreams come true. What a fun ride watching these boys grow up and chase their dreams.

Today's gonna be a GREAT day! It's the day our guy Brendan Rodgers gets picked in the MLB Draft!!! WOW!! It's finally here! So EXCITED!
Thanks for starting this topic. It's one of the most popular topics each year and each year we have several members kids drafted. I'll feature this for a week or two at the top of the forum to allow people to make their announcements and to allow the members to offer their congratulations.
Please make sure people let us know the player's name (if possible), which team drafted them, and which round. Thanks, CD
Let us bask in the glory of the best round of swings I think I've ever witnessed.
Good luck BRod!
Rich

Pretty sure it will be a ss. Just a matter of which one.

Seems like Rodgers is still rated at or near the top by most but from what I've seen (which is not that much) media people think the Dbacks will go for Swanson instead. Which makes sense. The Dbacks don't need help soon. They need help RIGHT NOW. Or better yet YESTERDAY. And it makes sense that they would judge a college player to be closer to being ready to join an MLB roster.
Is there anything cooler than getting a call from a Scout and seeing your son's name in the MLB Draft Tracker today?
Good Luck to everyone, fun stuff

Its pretty cool I will admit. Son was not drafted in HS, and he was chosen a few minutes before a super regional practice in Mississippi.
My daughter, husband and son were here, we took off from work that day. The best part was when we saw who drafted him, it meant that spring training was only 40 minutes away!
Best of luck to all of your sons who want to go pro this year.
Does your son have to be on the draft tracker to get drafted? I ask because our son was told he was on a couple of teams draft boards but he is not on the tracker.

Nope, he does not need to be on Draft Tracker to be drafted. His name must have been submitted to MLB to be drafted but that is different than Draft Tracker. If he is hoping to hear his name during the 40 rounds, I hope he gets good news. Good Luck!
I assume that if you have filled out multiple questionnaires and had workouts for teams you already have been submitted?
Any team or the MLB scouting bureau can submit the name. Once submitted, any team can draft the player in the 40 rounds. The level of exposure you have described could suggest the name has been submitted but that would not be 100% unless a scout confirmed this with your son or his coach.
One thing which needs to be appreciated and, unfortunately accepted, is there can be a lot of misleading impressions created by the process and some of those involved in the process. Our son got calls the night before the draft from teams saying they could pick him anywhere from rounds 10-20. In round 14, he was on the phone with a scout who said we are picking you now, are you ready (scout saw him the prior year only as far as our son knew), when the team picked and it was not our son. When our son was picked by team X, he was on one call with another team and had a 3rd team waiting all saying they were picking him next. The really hard part is there are players who get calls like ours did and never get picked.
Looks like he just went #3!
Shoveit4Ks- congrats man. Looks like your guy went pretty high
Congrats to BRod!
Congrats to pick No. 12 Josh Naylor to the Marlins from the Ontario Blue Jays!

Surreal night!!!!
Yeah, my son "may" get a call today or tomorrow if lucky. Stephenson is our HS catcher and a great kid/family. My son was at his draft party and got to see 1st hand the excitement and adrenaline, needless to say a 30 minutes conversation about today and tomorrow and do's and don'ts occurred last night when he got home. We've been told he's gonna get called...it's just when he gets called but everyone here knows that. I'll be on meds as i go for a molar root canal this morning and i've told my wife...."Keep me away from the any people in the decision making process", i hope its gonna be fun day exclusive of my trip to the Endontist.
Now our focus turns to our CF from HS Pruitt....i dont know how you turn down a Dore's scholarship at this point but we are pulling for him to have incredible choices!
Last thing, how did Chalmers slide and Neidert go ahead?
Did this really happen last night...? Was it a dream...??? So surreal!!!

Dang ShoveIt, that is some serious talent at Kennesaw Mountain.
Congrats to all whose sons were selected.
Son is enjoying seeing players he played with and caught be drafted yesterday.
Great kids and bright futures.
We'll avidly see what happens the next 2 days.
Our son's teammate at UW, catcher Austin Rei just drafted in 3rd round by Red Sox. I think they got one whale of a good ballplayer at that position in the draft. He missed about 60% of year due to a hand injury - otherwise I think he woulda been drafted earlier.
And a little later in the 3rd round - Braden Bishop, UW's centerfielder to the Mariners. He has been known to make a play (or two) on SportsCenter's top-10 for the day.

We have another D1 RHP who could have been and possibly will be drafted for rights later. Great group of kids with a few 16s that show promise. It's looking like late rounds happen with mine. I think he's hurt but we have done everything to include him in this process and have him make and agree with most of the decisions. They all love you till you tell them how much. Back to the business side which is why there is even a #
A fun part for some of us-the first D3 pick was in the 8th round when the Dodgers chose Tommy Bergjans, a pitcher from Haverford College (PA). He has some gaudy numbers including over 14K's per 9 innings. Great stuff for D3!
Congrats to whose son was drafted.
Some surprises in players not selected yet.
? does anyone know of a site listing signing bonuses for the 11-20th rounds?
I don't know of a complete list, but here's one for the 2014 Astros.

There are no slot values assigned for picks after the 10th round.
Any individual bonuses in rounds 11-40 that exceed $100K count against the team's bonus pool for the first ten rounds.
Thank you

usually available on baseball america draft section or baseball reference, once signed.
Was looking at 2015 on Baseball America and they currently have signing bonus linked to "Pool" which outlines current slot money as well as what the team has left in combined slot money (assume this will come into play once 4-5 players sign and the numbers beging to settle out). They also have a figure that refers to the max before the team has draft pick losses. I had never heard of this rule and simplyl thought there were monetary fines. Can someone explain what the penalty is for giving a 10th rounder "too much"? Looks like slot money is around $150k with the max before draft penaly being around $500k (round numbers).
If a team's bonus payments for the top ten rounds plus excess bonuses to later round pick exceed their pool by 5 percent or less, it pays a luxury tax of 75% of the excess.
If it exceeds the pool amount by 5-10% it pays a 100% tax on the excess
If it exceeds the pool amount by 10-15%, it pays a 100% tax on the excess and loses its next first-round pick.
If it exceeds the pool amount by 15%, it pays a 100% tax on the excess and loses its next two first-round picks.
Congratulations everyone! What an exciting time.
Reading this thread just shows me how much more I have to learn about this process and the business side of baseball.

An interesting byproduct of this process is the 10th round, $1,000 signing bonus. If a team doesn't sign a slotted player in the first 10 rounds, they lose that slotted amount toward their pool. So if a team is desperate to free up some extra cash to sign a player, they will start calling late round prospects looking for someone who is willing to sign for very little money.
Ryan Williams (RHP East Carolina) signed with the Cubs for $1,000 last year. That freed up $140K for the Cubs.
There were quite a few signings for $10,000 or less in the 9th and 10th rounds last year.
