If the players don’t like the money baseball can sit it out. Basketball and hockey are planning on having playoffs. Baseball can sink another notch in the American fan’s eye over money.

I’m all for players deserve whatever a team is willing to pay. But the two sides need to figure out how reduced revenues will work.

i miss college baseball. I miss biking to high school games. I enjoy MLB less and less each year. If MLB doesn’t want to play F ‘em!

I hope they can work it out. I do think that if baseball can work out how to play reasonably safely and the deal falls apart because guys (both players and owners) making millions say they can't afford a pay cut, a lot of ordinary people who need something positive in their lives right now, won't have a lot of incentive to continue to love baseball.

Everybody needs to give a little. And I know i'm desperate for something positive--most exciting thing in our lives right now is when the Subway got a new credit card machine that I don't have to touch to make a purchase. Watching a live baseball game would go far to improve my mood.

I’m getting fatter by the meal. 😖

What I took out of the Snell interview -

Health is his primary concern, but he'll play for his full salary. That doesn't sound like health is his primary concern.

He basically said it's not worth the risk for roughly 2.5 million.

Given I have a 99% chance of survival that is a risk I would take but what are you going to do. I'm sure there is a minor leaguer who will gladly take his spot for a fraction of that salary. Ever heard of Wally Pipp? Curious to see how his teammates will react.

DividIng the number of deaths by the population your odds of dying In PA are .000335. This is before considerations for your health, age and where in the state you live. You’re in the 10,000ths of 1%. So, you’re right. It’s not about health. It’s about money. F ‘em! Next man up.

I don't miss MLB and I don't care if they play or don't play this season.

I don't blame the players for not wanting to play, they should not have to take less, when they were promised more,  and they should not have to play for fear of getting sick and getting their families sick as well.

This.  But like RoadRunner said, "move over, next man up".

Don't play. Don't take less.  But let someone else get a shot, even for just this year, who will play and will take less.

(I do know it really doesn't work that way, but why not!?)

If the MLBers refused to play I believe this is the one year people would accept substitutes. The question is would Milb’ers cross the line?

That would only be applicable if there was a strike. It’s not applicable to this current situation.

Substitutes are not an option.

Any player removed from the 40 man roster is placed on waivers. If Garrett Coke decides not to play, can anyone see a scenario where the Yankees place him on waivers? I don’t.

I think there’s room for exceptions to the rules this year. But that’s for baseball to decide. If they don’t play so want! They just lose fans.

With the NBA and NHL ramping up for playoffs I won’t miss MLB. By the time hockey and basketball are done it will be close to football season.

I could be wrong but I don’t think that any team would put there entire 40 man, or even some of their 40 man, on waivers for the sake of a few months. This season is already a loss.

Blake Snell didn’t represent himself in the best way yesterday but he would NEVER clear waivers. Do you know how many teams would be happy to grab him and his contract?

As a fan, I would love to see MLB but I won’t fault the player’s union if they decide to stand their ground.

I can understand the players. They already agreed to prorated salary to reduced games and owners save lots of money with reduced draft and contracted minors. Sure revenue is lower and players need to pay for some of it but they probably feel they are already doing that and they don't want to agree to something that could stick because likely owners won't give back what they have already

By exceptions I didn’t mean letting players get away. I meant expanding the forty man roster to sixty or some other way to put together a team with out losing signed players. The easiest thing MLB can do is be the sport that doesn’t play and slide further into popularity oblivion.

They were promised more on the basis that they would be playing a full season. The season is shortened so they make less. When you sign a lease that begins on the 15th of the month, are you expected to pay for the full month or a prorated amount?

As for their health fears. Snell said he'll play for 7 mill, but not the prorated amount. Money is his only concern, the virus is the excuse to justify sitting out for not getting his full paycheck.

I've recently seen a 50 man roster proposal. That would alleviate the Rays' Snell issue

Point taken!

Let’s hope they get an agreement in place and play in July.
