I haven't posted much, as involvment in baseball as diminished with kids growing up. However, there are still developments that turn up that takes us back to 13-14 travel ball, the most fun my son says he ever had playing. Just flipping through some websites tonight, and saw where MLB had announced a couple weeks ago that Hal (Tripp) Gibson III was signed to be a full time MLB umpire for 2015. Tripp was just getting started when my son played for a travel team his 13 and 14 year summers. He was very young, but very good, and was working all levels he could at the time, American Legion, junior college, high school, and high travel leagues. We have followed as he continued his journey, having been in the PCL for a few years, and being called up for a couple fill in assignments in the bigs, and last year was one of the MILB rotating umpires who regularly worked MLB games. Now he is full time, and will continue to do a fine job, I'm sure. My son can say Tripp called his southpaw curve a strike long before he did Kershaw's.
