I understand what you're saying, Ken, and I agree with you. The only problem is that while AABC usually puts a better product on the field (in my opinion for what it's worth), AABC is seeing a reduction in the number of teams participating. With less participation comes less money.

I'm not that big into other organizations, but it can be pretty easy to "qualify" for one of their 42 world series. I believe that AABC at least has it set up better in that a WS qualifier must have at least 16 teams (which must be in an AABC league), thus making it pretty obvious that the winning team will be a quality team. It was in 2004 when we had the first qualifier and they were good.

I hear ya, Ken, but without the money that comes from those teams it makes it difficult to hold these WS. Farmington is a lot different than the Mantle for two main reasons. There is nothing else around there and it is the big show in town. Secondly it has been held in Farmington for over 40 years.

We struggle every year and this year is a huge struggle. Anyone want to help????
Our program, Trombly Baseball, was able to advance to both the 16U Mickey Mantle and the 18U Connie Mack World Series last summer. In fact, we were the Runner-Up for both! I wish that the dates did not run together so I would have been able to go to both events. Since the overlaped I had to choose one and I chose the 18U World Series in Farmington.

I am bummed that I was not able to experience the 16U event in McKinney. All of our players, coaches, and parents had a great time. I spent a lot of time in New Mexico speaking with our parents during the games getting the play-by-play. After the event was over I was able to look at hundreds of photos and experience it that way as well.

I wish the 16U Mickey Mantle World Series continued success. A special thanks to everyone who puts in numerous hours to make it happen. That being said, it appears you are in need of some additional help.

What do you need help with?
Steve,

We did enjoy having your players and fans here last year. Too bad you missed the championship game because it sure was a good one.

We need help in many area$, $uch a$:

Financial, ticket $ale$, travel coordination, financial, award$, player$ celebration night, financial, opening ceremonie$, conce$$ion$, financial, adverti$ing, field & stadium issues, financial, announcer$ & $corekeeper$, program, financial, etc.

See a pattern?
MM,

You know, the field that the MMWS uses sits next to the corporate office of a very large supporter of McKinney area events.

In fact, I have seen Mr. Alford himseld several times in this same corporate building.

Mr. Vic Lattimore, my employeer, may help in your need.

If you would like to put something together on paper, I just may be able to help you.

Contact me if wish. Wink

Oh, and Trombly........if you do end up ever coming to McKinney and I ain't in Farmington at the same time, party is at my house this time. Big Grin
Bam,

We aren't worried about the money for us. The money is used for the tournament.

2006 expenses for big ticket items were approximately:

$18,000 for hotels
$7,500 for rental vans
$25,000 sent to AABC to help with airfare
Meals - we provide $7 per day for each kid and 2 coaches.

There are a lot of other expenses that add up in a hurry. Too many to list, but it's a lot.

The way our contract is written, teams within 100 miles of McKinney are not eligible for travel assistance. Perhaps if we raised enough money we could help out, but at this point we can't.
MMWS -- you guys/gals run a great tournament. Do you think the MMWS would continue to stand out as a premier event (oops, wrong adjective perhaps) without paying as much to reimburse travel costs? We have never played in an out-of-town tournamen that pays our way. I think it is a great touch, but is it necessary for the event to survive at any venue?
PD, That's the difference between AABC and other organizations. You win your way there and most of the travel is handled. My opinion for this is to make it stand out from the others, as well as the short time frame from winning the regional to playing in the series.

That is also what our contract stipulates.

I never had the opportunity to participate, but from what I've heard about the series in Puerto Rico it is absolutely a wonderful event.
I think we would all agree that MMWS and AABC does a great job and has a tradition and history that no other organization can touch. The way I see it, there have been over 800 views on this topic, now let's discount that by 85% for people that have viewed the topic (including me) several times, that work out to at least 125 who have viewed this discussion. If each of us sent $20.00 that would raise $2500.00 for the tournament. MMWS, give us an address, I will be the first to make a contribution towards this worthwhile and much needed event.
I was told that there were about 1,500 16U teams that registered with AABC last year for Mickey Mantle. If a "World Series" fee of $20 per team were added on to each of these teams membership fees, that would bring in $30,000 to help run the World Series!!!!

Our 16U Mickey Mantle team paid $1,800 each to play last summer. I would have no problem paying an additional $20 per team to help run the World Series.

No, we never had anything scheduled. Richard Holt is having a Mantle regional qualifier in June, but no qualifiers for the world series.

You'll just have to win the regional to advance to the world series.

BBI is now having a World Qualifier June 27 - July 1.
