The Twins have claimed outfielder Darin Mastroianni from the Blue Jays. Mastroianni, 26, played in one game for Toronto last season and had a .268 batting average with 34 stolen bases while splitting the rest of 2011 between Class AA and AAA. A player will need to be taken off the 40-man major league roster to make room for Mastroianni.
Oh my goodness, I've been offline today and missed this last night. This is so exciting!!!

Paul, I can hardly wait to see Darin play in person! One of my favorite baseball photos of all time is one that you used as an avatar for a little while, of Darin stretched out perfectly horizontal in mid-air, snagging a hard-hit ball.

This is so cool!!!

Yes, that's the photo! Perfectly horizontal! And oh man, oh man, on the vertical one! I mean, seriously, it DOES look like he'd have to be jumping down, to be that far off the ground!!!

I copied both photos from this thread and sent them to my hubby. I was telling him about Darin last night and want to show him what I mean!

Story on Darin's call-up:

http://minnesota.twins.mlb.com...otebook_min&c_id=min

Mastroianni ... promoted to Rochester on April 14. In 19 games with the Red Wings, he hit .346 with two doubles, two triples and 10 stolen bases.

"He's been playing well down there and running all over the place, and I want to see him out there, see what happens," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said. "He's been getting it done. That's why he's up here. We talked about the guys who were playing the best."

Let's take a poll... who is surprised that Gardy said "He's running all over the place"? Smile Not me!!!

I've never met its or Darin, but I go to college with Darin's cousin Matt. He is an outstanding kid with a great work ethic that comes from an awesome family. He speaks incredibly highly of Darin and it seems as though they are all extremely proud of him and his accomplishments.

I love hearing stories like Darin's, especially because I have a semi-connection to him through the HSBBWeb. I'll be rooting for him!
