So, we all know that in the scorebook, "K" means strikeout singing and backwards "K" means strikeout looking... Is the following true???
Confused

A "K" with the prongs up means a strikeout on a foul bunt?

Does a "K" with tehe prongs down mean anything?

I'm hoping your expertise can help me...!

thanks, GG3

My first response is you are of course, correct, this is more of a question for scorekeepers...But as the scoring rules are listed under rule 10 we often get scoring questions...

Most umpires ignore anything after section 9....However I have acted as Official Scorer and Director of Umpires for a number of tournaments. I have never heard of the prongs being used to designate any type of strike.

That does not mean it does not exist, because most scorers Ive seen use some individual scoring quirk. So as long as you can Proove the box score I believe its not an issue...

That being said, I will give you the way I was taught.....

K - Swinging
Kc- Called 3rd strike (looking)
Kfb-Foul Bunt
Kft-Foul tip caught

This was an effort to make a box score easier to relate for the newspaper accounts written up after the games.

Hope this helps...
