Scoot the mound up a few feet.

Then get one of those radar guns that have two speeds. First reading is actual speed, second is what it would be if throwing from 60'6".

It works in the LL World Series, have you seen how many kids throw 90+? Big Grin

If you move the mound far enough up I could throw 90+! Wink

'bird,

As I have suggested to you previously. NOW is the time to get your 10 year old started on a comprehensive steroid program!

Maybe you can contact Barry Bonds for the name of the lab in California?

Don't wait .... you should have had him on "calf starter" in his formula since birth! You are playing catch up now.

One other thought ... This might be the year to retain him in school. It's important to give him every edge that you can.

redbird5,

On a more serious note, you don't want to do a lot at this point - his arm is just not mature enough yet. I would suggest a regular regiment of long toss and playing a healthy amount of baseball. Teach him to take care of the arm as well, maintain pitch counts (no matter how much he whines to pitch just one more inning) - and stick to icing after pitching and adequate rest between games pitched.

TR,
We're talking about 12yo and under. Our daddy guns don't go much over 80. For example, my son throws mostly 60 to 61 when throwing for the gun and has hit 64 once. Robert Stock was able to throw 80 mph at 12. If my son grows 8 or 9 inches and puts on 40 lbs between now and the end of the season, improves his mechanics, etc. then there's an extremely small chance he could hit 80 by the end of the season.

In real life he cruises high 50s, on the slow daddy gun - 64 mph, and on the fast daddy gun 80 mph! Wink

Ah, actually that was on my calculator. Another parents first cousin's best friend has a son in HS and he learned how to compute the speed by adjusting the solar battery and counting backwards from the pitcher's release point to the catcher's mit. He said that all the real smart HS dads on the hsbaseballweb site learned the techinque from TRhit!!

Come on, just kidding!!
Funny story about DADDDY GUNS

Was at a tournament two years ago sitting with a Division I coach talking about a certain pitcher who came into the event heralded as hitting 95 and throwing in the 88 to 92 range consisitently only the week before

We saw the kid pitch twice never hitting higher than 85 in either appearance-- Coach got up after the second appearance, shook my hand , folded his note book. said good bye and then laughed as he said "It must have been a DADDY GUN that had those 90 readings"
