On this board we talk about how to get our kids to the next level. I had the thrill Sunday to watch some kids just happy to be on the field.

I went to the Miracle League of Lehigh Valley to meet with the president. Miracle League is a specially designed league for handicapped kids. I wanted to find out how they got their league started. I'm interested in starting an organization somewhere in the suburbs of my hometown.

A player (not going to provide a minor's name online) in a wheel chair approached to introduce himself while I was talking to the president and his mother. His mother told him I'm interesting in doing something nice for kids.

The kid responded, "Last Christmas I gave all my presents to kids in the hospital. They needed something to make them happy. I was happy because I was home with my parents."

It's a good thing I had on baseball style sunglasses. The kid made me crack tears. This kid has more perspective on life than a lot of healthy kids. This kid is a real hero.

What was interesting about this place was while watching was an incredible event for me, it was just another day in the life for all the families present.

The Miracle League is a wonderful organization. My son's college was a huge supporter of the leaque. All the college players participated and all were RICHLY rewarded for the experience. The players each spring would hold practices for them, conduct scrimmages, and most importantly develop realtionships with parents and kids.

On the other end of things, my son's college did not always have a full house and sometimes they were lucky to have a couple of hundred show up. On the nights or days where they hosted the Miracle League, it was generally a full house. You did not have to tell these kids how to cheer, make lots of noise, and have fun. They were the best fans I have ever been around. The best college game I ever attended was a come from behind win on a beautiful spring afternoon in front of the Miracle League players and their families. Those kids went nuts and I also remember needing to keep the sunglasses on.
There is a Little league near our area that has a Challenger division. I remember reading about how a few years ago the kids from the League got to go to the Little league world series and play a game up there during the world series.

The local Little league and some local community groups sponsored the trip. The trip was a great success.
