My name is Nick Lambros. I am an 06 from Goshen, NY. A little background information: Was brought up to varsity end of Freshman year. Has been starting third baseman since. Batted either either third or fourth in the line-up consistently. Last season batted .385 (32 for 83)with 3 homeruns, 7 doubles and 16 RBIs.
I have attended a few showcases (TPX Topps 96, Frozen Ropes), and am currently in a Recruiting service. I have recieved numerous questionaires, and a few letters from smaller DI and both DII,DIII schools, but don't really know where to go from here. I have a video made up and plan to send it out to target schools, but am I too late? Some coaches have said through email that they have already finished recruiting my class. I am a solid student (NHS Member, 17th in class, 3.7-3.8 GPA). Application deadlines are right around the corner. Any advice would be appreciated.

BBall 88,

Yes, you are right, it is starting to get rather late, with application deadlines approaching, but it is never TOO late. We hear stories every year here of players finding a good fit the summer after they graduate!

I'm sure some other members will have some baseball-specific advice for you, but mine focuses on those application deadlines: Have you applied at any colleges yet, or have you identified any schools where you would be happy to attend and take your chances as a baseball walk-on if you don't get seriously recruited by the right school? It would be a good idea to apply to several schools before their application deadlines so that you have at least a Plan B and Plan C if none of your "Plan A's" work out. If money is a concern with application fees, check and see if any of your top choices waive the application fee when you apply online - some colleges do.

Regarding baseball, don't wait: Call the coaches at the schools you are most interested in. If you have sent a letter and returned a questionnaire but haven't heard back, call and let the coach know you are seriously interested and ask if they have any interest in you, or needs at your position. Coaches at many of the smaller colleges don't have a lot of time to spare recruiting kids who may not return their interest, so they may take a second look at your file if you call them. Good luck, and let us know how things go!

BBall88...

There are people much more experienced than I am but I don't want you to hang...hopefully I can scare up more posters for you...

You are not alone, There are many players in this same place. Don't panic, this was only round one. Many times the DII's, DIII's and other do not fill up in the fall AND even those schools who are full have spots come open in the spring and summer when players transfer, get hurt, lose at the grade game, drop out, get drafted, decide to play the JC "draft game". Think about it this way...you are more valuable now, that the pickings are slimmer, than you were in the fall.

That being said MN-Mom is right on the button...get to work. Apply to come schools rerardless of baseball that way you always have a fall back plan. Second, research, rank and contact those schools that offered interest and a new list of those that fit your needs (academic, geography, social, positions open career...)

Also you paid for the recruiting service use them see what contacts they have, put them to work.

You have all the tools (video, scouting reports, service...) and there is a great deal of time and opportunity left IF you are willing to go to work. They will not come find you. Call, write, research, send....

You could go and see all of these in one week...and talk to the baseball coaches. With your GPA and BB experience I can't see why you couldn't be registered and be wearing a BB uniform.

Get in a college and get on a team, you can work up from there.
