I usually reserve my posts for the Illinois forum and try to keep them as non personal as I can but I just had to get this one off my chest. My son just turned 6 the other day and although he has been playing ball this summer and I have been working with him. But for some reason I just couldnt get him to hit very well. I don't force anything upon him and let him choose at when he wants me to pitch to him. Anyway this week we had a tournament close to home and he came with me to be the bat boy. He brought his bat bag with all his equipment with him to the game so he was ready to go. Camden is a yapper and was talking with the players the entire time before the game and they were great with him eventhough he doesnt know when to stop. The team had some down time before the game and we had them take some dry swings as a group and do some sprints. It kind of shocked me when Camden ran off and got his bat and started doing what they were doing. It was great watching him try to emulate the guys and what they did. At that point I was grinning from ear to ear. After the game began and he did some of his bat boy duties I took him down to the pen with me to warm up a pitcher and he brought his bat along with him. I told him he could take some hacks after they were done. He killed the ball. I was shocked. His swing had completely changed from the lumberjack chop to this nice smooth little lefty swing. At that point he was grinning from ear to ear. I guess he had an epiphany watching those guys. I was so proud of him. We went back to the dugout and I always make him sit behind me since the dugout is open and he put his arm around me and said "Dad I love baseball". I thought I was going to break down right there. It was one of the best moments of my life to this point. Not just because of baseball, but the bond that we had created at that point like me and my father. I now appreciate more the posts that have been made by other posters and their children. Thanks for listening.
