I was wondering if there was a way of finding out how many NAIA schools have made the jump over to the NCAA.
Any help would be appreciated.

I know Oklahoma Baptist University did..
Don't know of any consolidated list, but Kennesaw State did. Played NAIA from '84 - '94.
Won NAIA World Series in '94, then moved to DII in '95. Won DII National Championship in '96. Moved to DI in 2006.
There is some info in this thread...

It may help if you ask more specific questions. I have kids that have played in both. There are advantages to each and there are things you should be aware of if looking at schools that are making a transition.
Univ of Findlay, here in Ohio did....looks like 1998....went NAIA to D2
Cabbage, I'm simply looking for a list of schools that made the move, I'm curious to see how many have made the jump.
In Ohio a few years back we had quite a few go from NAIA to D2.
Findley
Ohio Domincan
Malone
Tiffin
I believe there were others as well. Those are the ones I am aware of in Ohio.

Urbana made the jump in 2010. Had no idea they were D2, Ron Oester's (former Red) son is in his 2nd year as the HC.
Cedarville also went D2 in 2011 or 2012 and it looks like Notre Dame College also switched in 2012

Got it. The post in the link I provided that Rick at Informed Athlete posted is pretty accurate for recent years. I have also come across a few who have gone the other direction but couldn't tell you the schools of the top of my head.
For convenience... Rick's post (from August of this year)...
...the following NCAA actions are effective Sept. 1:
Cal State San Marcos, Concordia - Irvine, Concordia-Portland, Embry-Riddle (Florida), and Oklahoma Baptist become active D2 members.
Westminster College in Utah moves to year 3 of the D2 transition period toward active membership.
Auburn Univ-Montgomery, Biola Univ, Davenport Univ, and Purdue U Northwest move to year 2 of the D2 transition period.
Also, as NYDAD mentioned, NYIT was approved as an active D2 member for this year.
Thanks Cabbage

Good catch, I actually knew there were more but could not pull them out of this old Noggin. Many of these teams initially joined the GLIAC, but have moved to more appropriate conferences. Grand Valley state being the 800 pound gorilla For Football, in the Gliac.
Yep, and now a few have moved again. Don't quite understand Findlay moving to the GMAC. Smaller schools that field fewer sports and more travel. Never really heard a reason behind the move.
Yeah Malone considered D3 before changing conferences to The GMAC as well.
I don't know of any complete list, but you could compare Massey Ratings across several years to get an idea of which schools have left NAIA. For example, I see 185 baseball schools in 2017, as compared to 205 in 2010. Use the link below then switch out the year in the URL.
Thanks midatlanticdad
Central Arkansas made the jump a few years back as well as a few other Arkansas schools. I know when Scottie Pippen was there, they were NAIA. They have since moved up to D1.
DBU used to be naia
TN had a few schools jump a few years back. Lambuth was going to but closed instead. Union and Lee and I think two other schools but can't remember who.
I didn't like it. TN had some pretty good NAIA baseball.
A few years back I spoke with a baseball coach that was the HC during the transition. He wasn't happy about it. Less scholarship, way more travel, and no benifit to recruiting. The only way NCAA tag helps with the recruiting is if it has a D1 at the end of it lol. He said it wasn't a baseball decision and as far as all the schools that made the switch. It was never a baseball decision. It was mostly basketball and a few football.
What's the motivation behind a move from NAIA to NCAA? I assume it's $$?
One factor that I see in most articles is that NAIA school have to pay their own travel expenses for tournament play, whereas NCAA covers those expenses.

Belmont and Lipscomb were NAIA and went D1

Thank you. That's the other two NAIA schools I was thinking about.

In the link above they mentioned Mount Vernon. They never successfully moved to D2. Not sure what happened but they are still NAIA. I do not believe they ever made it to D2.
One other note on this subject.
