Just listened to a voicemail from a gentleman in Boca Raton inviting my son to the Massachusetts State Home Run Derby run by these folks. He specifically states in his message that it's not exclusively for "Light tower power" hitters, but that they run a complete showcase on the second day of the event. My son, though he hits with power, doesn't hit home runs very often (big goose egg so far this season!) He was recommended by last year's varsity coach (now an assistant at a DIII college). I'm wondering if anyone has heard of this event and/or thinks this is worthwhile.

This showcase is run locally by a coach in South Florida. They have held it here for the past few years and it has been quite a fun event. It drew kids from all over Florida but ther majority of the competitors were from Palm Beach and Broward counties. I have no idea what the organization would be like at other venues but I know they were planning on expanding it nationally.

I don't recall there being any charge for the event held here. It did have some scouts in attendance. Honestly other than the Homerun Derby the showcase portion when I saw it was nothing much. They ran outfield and infield for several groups but that was about it.

They do have a website and have actually posted information on this board in the past.

Hope this helps.
