I am no expert on this, but I believe they are a premier D3 opportunity. I believe this is where Coach Fox won a national championship before moving on to coach the Tar Heals. Perhaps Coach May or someone else can also chime in.
Good program. However, we visited the campus a couple of years ago. It is very, very small and in the middle of nowhere. About as in the middle of nowhere as any campus I've ever visited.
A very good program in the USA South Conference. We play them every year and they're well-coached, with the players certainly appearing to like the coach. NCWC has well-travelling fans and some of the friendliest parents we've met anywhere. Very nice field and campus. Nearby Rocky Mount has a population of approximately 50,000 with every restaurant and hotel you could possibly want.
Their head coach sat and chatted with me for a long while at one of the conference tournament games and couldn't have been nicer. While they are a huge rival in the conference, a number of guys at my son's school (CNU) are friends with alot of NCWC players. Fierce rivals on the field, friends off the field. Worth a look.
Yes Coach Fox coached here before leaving and taking over the UNC program. Coach Long is an outstanding coach and runs an outstanding program. They are always a very competitive team and are always extremely well coached. The school is located in Rocky Mount NC which is about an hour and a half from Raleigh and about 45 minutes from Greenville NC which is where ECU is located. Its in eastern NC. The campus is small. The town is awesome. I love Rocky Mount. The school is outstanding and has a great academic reputation. My oldest son attended NC Wesleyan and played football there. I have had a couple of players over the years attend Wesleyan and they they loved it.
The campus is actually located just on the outskirts of Rocky Mount but just down the road there is a mall , shopping center and several eating establishments. There is a ton of things to do in Rocky Mount. But of course we know if your son is playing college baseball there is not alot of time to do anything but study and do baseball related things. The field is very good the facilities are good as well. They have a nice weight room located right beside the dorm the players live in.
If your son is interested in playing college baseball and has the opportunity to play at NC Wesleyan congrats. Its a very very good program and the coaches are oustanding. Good luck
My son is a sophmore pitcher and he loves the baseball team. playing time is fair and coaches will play the best players, regardless is you are a freshman or senior. Very competitive program. Coaches only keep about 27-30 players on team and does not have a JV, so if you make the team, there is a good chance you will get a shot to play. As far as campus is small and in the middle of nowhere, but my son stays busy with team activities. Highly recommended!
Costa! You've changed your tune about NCWC! Holden, I'm told Coach Long at NCWC is in the middle of some nice upgrades. I also hear that CNU is the envy of DIII with regards to facilities.
The infield has been completely regraded. It had a pretty bad bowl. I believe they are redoing the batting cage with a possible cover, and he wants to construct a new field house/press box. Coach Long began hosting showcase events last year which I believe has helped NCWC's exposure and aided in fund raising.
I haven't seen Emory's field, but I can vouch for CNU's. Their stadium is nicer than many D-1's and they have a full size field house with cages for winter indoor baseball training. They have a large weight room, but most of the baseball players work out at the field house fitness center which looks like a Bally's. Hard to imagine how they could improve, except maybe lights on the field - but you don't see many schools with those.
Outdoor batting cages have been brought down and equipment shed as well. Brinks for new foundation as well as new cage construction have started. I do not think the old one was in real bad condition but I'm sure the kids will be happy with new facility.
Would be nice to have a indoor facility for the pitchers to throw in the winter...pretty cold in Rocky Mount.
