IF you have a good academic advisor, you can probably do just fine.

The key is to load up in the fall (as always) and take less strenuous courses in the spring. But you have to balance that with your desire to graduate in 4 years.

Sometimes it can get tough ... Every night in the fall after practice came the obligatory trip to the library for a late night session and there was many a night this spring after a mid-week games or travel when my son stayed in the library until 3AM working on projects.

Nature of the beast I guess.
One of my kid's professor sent him a note congratulating him on the CWS and then went on to say how impressed he was on how he did in his class considering he missed 3/4 of it....OUCH!

Schools like Cal who don't have lights, they would miss most of their classes even on home games let alone away games.

Bottom line, it was not the best for the Student/Athletes!
As parents think about it a minute or two----did you not find your sons grades in HS to be better during the baseball season---they have no time to be goofing off

My son had a better GPA coming out of college than he did coming out of HS and a degree to boot. He played 4 games a week--what the heck is one more-- BUT, and this is a huge BUT, he had great support both from his academic people and the baseball staff---nearly 10 years later we are still

Kids who want it will make it work--the kids who don't care won't ---it is that simple---I truly belive that the kids who want it could play 7 days a week and still succeed in the classroom---they know the grades keep them on the team---no grades no team and thus no baseball, their great love in life
Harder than in previous years for sure on everyone...

Loaded up in the fall...will take summer school for a lab class...utilized on-line classes...worked his tail off at odd hours in odd places...academic advisor was a godsend/lifesaver/God...VERY important to any student athlete...Despite the squashed schedule...Baseball led the school in GPA...

Cool 44

First semester was the 'learning' semester, as in "LEARNING WHAT NOT TO DO".

Like mastering songs on the 'hard' level of Guitar Hero. His idea of "Time management" was more like, "since so much time is devoted to baseball, I must find time to be highly social and perfect my Guitar Hero skills". And, since nobody's telling us not to......

Luckily his academic advisor and asst. coach set him straight. He spent a lot of hours in mandatory study hall (thank goodness). Second semester even though he missed class time due to all the travel and games, he did much better. Was more organized and made sure he got notes via internet - that helped a lot.

HC was very impressed with the team's overall GPA, and decided to announce all the player's GPA at a dinner that all the parents and players attended.
It was not cool if your name was not read, everyone knew. Good tactic by HC -they all want to be on the list he reads, not the other oneSmile It also showed, if they can do it, you can do it, no excuses.
I'm with TR on this one. I have always noticed that when the kids are in season, they become more disciplined as a matter of necessity. TV and video games get crowded out, and school gets the attention it deserves.

Off season, you have to watch them slacking off, because those activities can become addictive, and often they become so lost in the video games they have no concept of how much time has been frittered away. Next thing you know you have a test tomorrow that you haven't read for, much less reviewed for.
