I suppose I'm probably answering my own question, but is email from a coach to a prospect in his Junior year considered the same as calling a prospect on the phone? Is it a violation and is that, more or less, a reason that there may not be any return responses from the coach (via email)? That is besides the fact that they just are not interested in the prospect?

Scenario: Prospect has recieved several letters from the Coach informing the prospect of their program. The prospect emails the coaching staff and informs them that he is highly interested and infact wants to attend their school, is very excited about their program, etc..etc.., and gets no response that they even recieved the email....

Curiously it makes the prospect believe there is no prospect.

Would it be better for the prospect to call the coach to inform him/her about this?

ARMYOFONE-
Two things from my research on this website:
1) Emails do NOT fall under the phone call guidelines. Therefore, a coach CAN return an email from a JR prospect.
2) Reading this site, it appears there is significant variance in the use of email by coaches. I have read on this site that it appears SOME coaches never read and/or respond to emails, while others love using email (or even text messaging!!!)
Good luck!
The coach can email the prospect and it does not count as a contact, as a phone conversation could.

My reccomendation would be to call the coach, and if not there, leave a message that you have emailed him and leave your email addy on the phone message for him to respond. This is because he is not allowed to return calls to underclassmen, but is allowed to talk to them if the underclassmen calls him.
Dont be alarmed by the program not emailing back. They send out alot of letters to alot of kids. Mass mailing by some schools is the way they do business. They can email as often as they like and you and or the player can email back as much as you like. Your son can call as much as he wants but the coach can not call or return calls.
Army of One - Please also understand that it is most likely at a large D1 program, that a student assistant/volunteer in the coach's office most likely generated the letter, info sheet, email, subsequent follow-ups, watched your video, invited you to a camp, Junior Day, and even responded to your email. The information you sent went in a file, which the coach may look at if you come for an unofficial visit, or you are on the national recruiting radar screen. Nothing wrong with any of that, but agree with posters who suggested you call a coach back if you wish to have further communications.
