I didn't want to take anything away from Rob's post about his son's ex HS teammate,  I think its great that the kid is getting his opportunity on a national stage and hope he does fantastic..... But...

It is hard to believe that the NCAA can find a kid ineligible at this time of the year. Grades would have been posted a month ago.  I don’t specifically care what the kid did, that’s between his team, him and his family. It seems odd that whatever he did was done after the last game he played. Can the NCAA go back now and make Vandy forfeit any games.  Didn’t USC have to forfeit games Reggie Bush played in after his scandal broke? I think that was 5+ years removed from when he played.  Whatever it is Vandy and the NCAA will have some splainin to do!

I will be watching tonight, I hope it goes 3 games as I don't want the college season to be over. Plus I hope that 5 years from now the results stay the same.

Good question. I guess we'll see. Looking forward to the series!

This is one of those contests where I won't really know who I'm rooting for until it starts. I was rooting for both to get there and now I have to choose.  I think I'm leaning toward UVA because my son is applying there, but as a SF Giants fan I'm definitely hoping for Tyler Beede to get a handle on his stuff and pitch well.

You didn't see UCI?

Others not being there may be (in part) because they sent some good ones 2,000 miles away in the  middle of finals.  Look at the UW/Ole Miss series.  Tight/1-run games all the way.  Coulda been different with a different host?  (BTW, the folks at Ole Miss were so nice I rooted for them right to the end).  Stanford/Vandy super-regional was contested until middle of 3rd game.  Who knows?    Oregon/Vandy pretty competitive too.  All 3 schools are on quarters...ending in early June.

Not making excuses.  But anyone who thinks it doesn't matter, well....

The bigger concern?  NCAA wants to be about STUDENT-athlete - well then, don't send teams in the middle of finals 2,000-3,000 miles away.  Did you know that Stanford players got a whole 12-hours back on campus between series at IU and Vandy?  Pretty tough on a kid trying to study for exams. It creates a huge workload deficit for kids trying to be real students.

Having said all of that, I think 2 of the best teams made it to the finals.  UVa and Vandy are very good.  Not sure who I'm rootin' for.

I understand the situation. I'm talking about the presentation. If you believe the NCAA presentation you would think every student-athlete is a dedicated student who is nothing but an attribute to the community. And the NCAA looks out for their best interests.

Sultan, I can appreciate your concern for the lack of the usual heavy influence of west coast teams.  I think I can put your mind at ease, though.  Just glance at the recent thread that breaks down the MLB draft players by home state... California by a HUGE margin.

Ribbing aside, it is nice to see two finalist rosters full of players from the non-sunbelt states, particularly Virginia's.  Makes for a strong case in the argument that if you can play, you can play, no matter where you are from.

Charlottesville and Nashville aren't exactly in the snow belt. The average high for March in Charlottesville is 58. In April it's 69. For Nashville it's 61 and 71.
