Has anyone worked with either of these two services and what were your thoughts

Amen to that. There's undoubtedly a list of similar companies that could be compiled here.
Not sure about the second service (Showcase), but son (and I) found NCSA helpful. Was one flat rate and joined either his freshman year or early sophomore year, so he got good use. Liked having coach contact to ask infinite number of questions. Kaplan test practice was included which helped son prepare for SAT. Webinars provided good information, much of which is disseminated here too. Son at time was casting a wide net so learning about schools was helpful too.
As is the case with anything you go with not all schools utilize NCSA, not all schools attend various showcases, high level tournaments etc. That knowledge comes from directly contacting the individual schools.
