...from the crack research staff of the hsbaseballweb (thats all of you! Wink ).

I just purchased a beautiful color photo of Crosley Field at a game played between the Reds and Cardinals on either June 8th or 9th, 1968.

Here's my question...the American flag is flying at half staff in CF. Why? Who died?

I've already eliminated:
* Dwight Eisenhower
* Apollo astronauts burned up in fire on launch pad

Does anyone know why?

The guy who sold it to me told me the flag was "due to Kennedy's death" but I stupidly locked in on JFK and thought, nah, that was November.

BTW, this guy has the coolest sports memorabilia store I've ever been in. He's a collector himself and his store (www.sportsinvestments.com) is half store/half museum.

He has Pete Rose's bat and ball from hit #4192 and the car (corvette) that Marge Schott gave to him that night in the store. He also has all kinds of Reds memorabilia and other stuff...some very old. I asked if he was going to donate to Cooperstown someday and he said, "nah, I'll probably sell it all." Its gotta be worth a ton!

The store is in a suburb of Cincinnati (Montgomery) very near where I grew up. Stop in sometime if you're there. Its not focused only on Cincinnati stuff but from all over. Easily the best I've ever seen.
