Great stuff! He can and should be playing catch while he is shut down, 90 feet or less and easy throws 2-3 times per week. 8 weeks out I would start to increase the intensity and start moving out slowly. After two weeks (6weeks away) I would start to work out to maximum Long Toss distances and let my arm guide me on how often and how hard to Long Toss. Goal would be to get to every other day by 4 weeks out. At 4 weeks out I would add in bullpens, starting easy for the first week, every three days 25-30 pitches. 2 weeks out I would increase the intensity of the bullpens and start to work on each individual pitch more and work up to 35-40 pitches. 1 week out I would add in some simulated innings 1--2 after a bullpen. (have someone stand in). Week 0 he is ready to go, no more than 3 innings. I would prefer early sessions to be 2 innings and then start to stretch them out depending on how he feels. He really needs to let his arm guide him, some days he will be stiff so take it easy and other days he will be able to air it out.
