My son got an unsolicited email from an organization called USA Athletes International, inviting him to play on a team heading to The Netherlands this summer. As usual, I am very skeptical about things like this, but would hate for him to pass up an opportunity. The team is set to be coached by Jonathan Martin from Vasser College, who used to play at Lynchburg College, so there is probably how they got my son's name.

Any information on this organization would be greatly appreciated. I plan on contacting Coach Martin (heck, I'm not shy) on Monday. Thanks.

We got these invitations in the mail with such regularity, I thought they were somehow connected to one of the national political parties...

My personal feeling is that international travel is a wonderful thing. I do business in 43 different countries and visit every one of them. But go to Holland on vacation, not to play baseball. Go to East Cobb, Peoria, LV, Brea, Bradenton to play baseball.

Baseball trips to places like China, Holland, UK are generally money making ventures for the organizers, and are not what I would call serious baseball expeditions.
