Have a question for you guys. My son is a freshman this year, clarly the best player on Varsity. Blinding speeed, coach will probably want him in the outfield. However he's such a smooth infielder, I cam't see how they can spare him in this spot. Not only that, He's a power arm really need him pitching as well. I wonder though, with his hitting ability, far above kids this own age, will pitching hurt his ability to make it at the next level offensively. To add more to this delemma, the girls swoon over him, I'm afraid the other guys will get jealous. When you add this all up, it's very big problem deciding what's best for junior. What do you guys think? I'm sure some on here are struggling with some of the same issues. Anybody with a similar situation?
Advice greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
Phenom Dad

My son signed and went to college fall as an outfielder, even though he had played infield and pitched in H.S. Got beat out, perhaps had he played some outfield in H.S might have been better. Switched to pitcher only and had to work his way up the depth chart, now a weekend starter. Many of the guys he plays with had no bumps in the road until college, some can't handle competition for playing time. They quit, bad attitude, etc beware.

Boy, ain't that the truth!

On my son's JUCO team there have already been 3 pitchers who have quit and 1 got booted because of a stupid prank call to the coach. Felt he wasn't being utilized correctly...lol.

Until you've experienced High School Dad's and Mom's with your son about making it during that infamous Freshman year, PLEASE take serious heed from the many wonderful folks here on HSBBW to the myriad of struggles he will face.

I'm 8 months into this year and it's an absolute wonder that I have made it this far!
