Get the phone company to do it. A lot of times they will even have poles to donate for something like this and will do the work too. We put a backstop like this in last year and this is what we did to make it work.

Also, on the net look around and try to find just net making places and you might get a better price. I'm near the ocean and one of our dads owns a fishing boat. A place he goes through to get nets for fishing made our backstop net for about a third of what anybody else baseball wise was asking.

Good deal by going 8" steel poles. You'll NEVER have any sagging poles.

Maybe talk with your electric company, they are experts in installing those wooden electric poles.
We used 3" steel poles that work fine. For ease of installation, drill your holes and cement in pieces of PVC just slightly larger than your poles. Once that sets up, you just slide the poles in. From experience, trust me on this: put a wire across the top and bottom, and clip the net to the wire (aluminum spring clips work well). Do not attach your net directly to the wire by running the wire through the sewn on loops or you will have a painful ordeal when it comes time to replace the net.

If you have a friendly welder, putting a rope and pulley on top of each pole is helpful as you can easily lower the net to avoid winter winds, weather, etc.

If you can tie off the end poles somehow, that's helpful too- you'd be surprised how much a net weighs once it's up and you will have some sag in the wire but it's looks best if you can minimize it.
Currently working on planning the same project slated for after this season. Our plans include pouring a 3' stamped concrete wall from first to third dugout' installing 4" heavy wall pipe at the backstop corners 30' tall. The 30' poles will be guy wired to the block concession stand behind and will be strongly locked into the wall. The net will taper from 30' to 11' at the dugout and the cable will be anchored by the inline player protection fence in front of the dugouts. Cable will run through eye bolts imbedded every 5 ' atop the wall and will run between all 4 poles. Cable tension is key to a tight net. If you don't have your net yet give Mike a call at the "Net House". He is very helpful.

Welcome to the HSBBW Nets O' Tex. Thanks for the offer of assistance.

Keep us posted on baseball life in Cypress. I hope you've cleared the tall grass and brush away from the outfield fence...we wouldn't want it to get scorched! You folks take care down there. I hope your Governor's prayers are answered and rain comes your way...drenched from El Paso to Texarkana and Amarillo to Corpus Christi.
