New College Recruiting Rule

Players can still get verbal offers, but the coaches can't put anything in writing till that date. At least that's what the coach who offered my son a scholarship in July told us.

As LHPMom2012 says, players can still get verbal offers with specific amounts anytime.

A proposal (2010-42) was made in June 2010 to prohibit even verbal offers until July 1st between the junior and senior year, but it was defeatedin Jan 2011. Football didn't like the timing (since it is a fall sport, and women's basketball didn't like it because women tend to mature earlier, and also tend to commit earlier.

Most everybody thought the rule would be effectively unenforceable.

So far, the restriction on written offers only applies to D1.

Again just another stupid NCAA rule. I've had 2 boys go through this with many many offers between the two and there were actually only 2 schools that put offers in writing. I'm sure thisnis the same with many here.
