Like AAU, the EBL teams/programs are only as good as those who run the team/program. The EBL seems to have focused on taking the longer running AAU teams/programs who were frustrated with the way AAU ran things. Each is also at the mercy of the owners of the fields they play on. Not many teams "own" their own field. Some don't even play any home games because you have to get/pay for a field, get umpires, etc. It's much easier to play "on the road", except for the parents of course...
If a team plays at a college field and the "powers that be" there decide that the field shouldn't be used, then you're screwed. If you're bad at communication, the problem is compounded as your opponent shows up and has to go home. I have a neighbor who's son is on a team that was playing at the same site as CBMDad's son, but a few weeks later that had the same problem - the games were canceled on a seemingly beautiful weekend where it had only rained for a short time. In this case, I think blame should be directed at the team/program for lack of notification. The EBL can only set up a schedule - it doesn't own the fields...
