If the batter-runner reaches first safely, then he gets credited with a hit. If he reaches first but is out advancing to second, it's a single. If he makes it to second but is out advancing to third, it's a double. Etc.

How about slides into second for a double, is safe, but overslides the bag and is tagged out. Double or single?

I believe that would be considered getting tagged out going to second.

Therefore, I think it's a single.

If I'm keeping score, this would be a double, because the runner reached 2nd legally and safely.

If the batter had hit the ball well enough to consider trying for a triple, decides against it, and get tagged out going back to second, we'd call that a double, right? The fact that the play at second in the OP was close shouldn't affect the scoring.

Similar question on a steal. How do you score it if the runner overslides the base and gets tagged out? Does he get a steal and a caught stealing?
